Even Microsoft Doesn’t Want Final Fantasy XIV

Massively multiplayer rat-bashing grind Final Fantasy XIV will not be appearing on the Xbox 360 “because Microsoft doesn’t want it,” says Square Enix.

Producer Hiromichi Tanaka reportedly explained that although Microsoft allowed the preceding Final Fantasy XI to be launched on the infant Xbox Live service, it wanted nothing to do with Square Enix over the release of Final Fantasy XIV.

The previous month he claimed the reason there would be no Xbox 360 version was because Xbox Live was too “closed” – it appears keeping a story straight is not amongst his strongpoints, for in the same month he also claimed the PC and PS3 versions would be nearly identical, only to announce a delay shortly after based on difficulty getting the PS3 port working satisfactorily.

Square Enix didn't want FFXIV on the Xbox 360 to begin with, not the other way around. Seriously, they're having problems with the PS3 version, what makes you think they want to work on an Xbox version?

If it's the same thing with what happened with Phantasy Star Universe, then it's Microsoft's fault for not allowing their Xbox360 users to play with Playstation 3 and PC users and Square-enix said "Well, kay then see ya" and M$ is prolly gonna be begging them for FF14 soon.

I play FF11 and 99.99999999999999999% of the time you can't tell who are PS2 users, PC users or 360 users. (only time you can tell is Besieged or Campaign battle when they lolDC from some 360 bug.

I know a few of my 360 buddies are pissed because they only have a 360 and they wanna play ff14 (which is FF11 + WoW basically) and their PCs aren't up to date.

    Honestly, I think it's also a 360 hardware problem.

I personally would like it to be on 360 just so I can play with my FF11 360 buddies that want to play FF14.

And to all you MMOs aren't for console people:
You guys do know PS3 and 360 are technically computers themselves with gaming compatibilities (only of the CDs they can play) I mean, you can hook up a keyboard (obviously), Headset (which sometimes sucks for 360, damn 11 year old screamers playing Phantasy Star Universe -.-) and other USB goodies. Plus you can sit on your bed and play it on your HDTV or even 3DTV with surround sound booming throughout your household.

Microsoft is only interested in exclusive games lately, and the days of Square being "THE" console puller are long gone (if anything ff13 put the last nail in that coffin)

plus like Inkydog said earlier, consoles (specially heavily subsided ones like the xbox) get most of their income out of ppl buying new games, ppl buying just one mmo and playing all the time without even playing for live gold is not in their best interest

also they are probably more interested on crap implementing the Kinect right now since they need to push those shit-sandwiches somewhere

and btw, imho if Square wants to get somewhere competing with the 5e+16 mmos coming out this year (including several with waaaaay more hype and media interest than ff14 like the wow xp or kotormmo) doesnt seem like the wisest place to put all their resources, i think focusing making sp rpg games with good gameplay (really not much competition there) and maybe even tap into the forgotten but now resurrecting PC market would be a better bet, hell even porting their last 100 games would give them more profit than this doomed mmo

FFXI was one of the worst MMOs I've played recently, that said I can't stand the main series but I've been known to play the spin-offs. I kept hearing a lot of people who didn't like the main series liked XI so I thought I'd play the trial. What an epic waste of time that was, and no I hate WoW so stfu.

SE has no idea what it takes to make a successful MMO and they aren't going to figure it out anytime soon, I would say stick to the offline games but even the fans are starting to dislike them as well.

Microsoft has possibly made one of the smartest choices in a looooong time.

Perhaps it's time to let the series die before it degrades the name any further? Just a thought.

i dont know if this is said yet but Microsoft is extremely closed with xbox live.

the reason ffxiv cant be on it is because of this.

xbox servers are set up in a very closed way that makes it ideal for 4-12 people at once, but you will never see massive scale battles on the system because microsoft doesn't let companys run there own servers, and they sure as fuck aren't changing their whole structure for 1 game.

back when xbox as announced, true fantasy live was being made, and i got it for that game. i believe that microsoft wouldn't let them have a massive scale game and wanted them to make it scaled back like phantacy star, and they said fuck it and quit developing it because of that.

i honestly wouldn't be surpriseing if that was the reason because of much of what was said and the axeing of TF and how microsoft handles servers sense than and till now

It annoys me how people are comparing XIII to XIV when they are two completely different games. You can't compare XIV to XIII, XIV is an MMO and XIII is a JRPG as some call it. Just because XIII wasn't to some people's liking doesn't automatically make XIV just as bad.

Ugh..I've pretty much had it up to hear about what are some American game developer companies and microsoft are doing, despite me being african living on US soil.

I know I wasn't notice much as I was anonymous, but I did say back then on the Nier article, I'm getting sick of the macho man look in most american games these days. Sure, having a muscular man is okay in some games, but they are really overdoing it. I don't mind something different that's does not have a muscular character. Maybe in some games they do, but don't for the most part.

It is stupid for Microsoft deny a FF game that they already didn't had problems with the previous two they allowed to release on their console. Then again, I play much RPG and MMO on my PC. I was hoping to give it a try on the Xbox360 for some reason if FFXIV were out on that console. A pity really, but sometimes people in america just fails. (Yeah, an African American went there.) But don't count out other countries as well, sometimes there might be a fail or two within other people in the world.

You guys realize it's because Microsoft isn't able to make money off of them right? You can access the game with a silver membership, and if Microsoft can't make money, well then, they don't want anything to do with it.

I'm beta testing FF14 atm myself, and am looking forward to the release, the client just needs to be optimized which will happen closer to launch, and some ui changes need to be made, along with smoothing the mouse out, otherwise I'm having a blast. I'm very happy with the changes made to the battle system to make it much faster.

Microsoft not being able to make money?

Let's not forget the PC version is made on a platform(IBM based) that is basically conquered by Microsoft products, ie WINDOWS OS.

If they want to get their shit running, Square-Enix will need all the support they can get to make it happen. I doubt Microsoft would just give it to them for free.

Presumably they're still getting a license fee from games sold, why would you turn down free money unless S-E is asking MS to pay them to deliver a port?

The last FFXI expansion sold rather equally on PS2 and 360, that's far from horrible.

This game seriously looks boring. Its not even out yet and it looks outdated. It also has no presentation and the character models, armor, and style are just bland. This could be another one of those MMO's that fails really hard and then goes free to play after the first year.

I thought ff13 was great, I liked it for what it was... todays game I think people expect too much from the game, and hype it up way too much (aion for example.. Reason that game failed is because people hyped it up so much and expected so much from it, tons of people left when they didn't have the game the way they wanted to see it.) people need to stop expecting so much from games, And stop thinking that games should evolve around what they think the game should be like, and screw everyone around them... Most people think games after FF VII sucked, because they expect too much from squarenix too much.

They just fired FF's fathers and since that moment (2003-2004), they have made games even FPS addicts like (no story, no character, only empty gameplay). A scenarist has been said by Squix for FFXII not to write so much about characters because "players don't mind about empty characters and it makes more work, there is no time for this, CG are more importants"... To me I thought having FF XI on 360 was terrible, Because paying to play online 360 makes you pay is stupid. Im paying for internet provider and the game fee, why should I pay for playing online on a console. That said, glad 360 not getting it. Someone said MS probably wanted more of the monthly fee. That is probably true. Reason Wow had more subscriptions then FF XI is because more little kiddies could lvl fast, grind faster and get to top lvl and act like he knows everything faster. Where in FF XI it was slower, and you learned how to play your character better then wow. On where wow, once you got to lvl 80, you only used 2 or 3 spells in a raid, and never used the simple spells in the early stages of your character. But in FFXI you used skills from that you first learn, because of skill chains. So you just don't spam skills like you do in wow, which was turned off more to kiddies, which more mature people played FFXI and you hardly get the winning people and so on.
