Critically acclaimed PS3 strategy RPG Valkyria Chronicles has been proclaimed the “best PS3 strategy RPG” by the Guiness Book of Records.
Whilst the prize is admittedly of rather dubious value considering Guiness’ ability to evaluate games apparently extends no further than cribbing scores from review aggregator sites, few could object to some positive publicity for Valkyria Chronicles, which was unfortunately developed by Sega.
Of perhaps even less value is Valkyria Chronicles 2‘s receipt of Gamespot E3 awards for best RPG and best PSP game – considering Gamespot’s reputation in this area this may attest to little more than the size of Sega’s marketing budget.
And yet still Sega refuses to make a proper sequel for the game.

Well, I am not surprise. For an sRPG game, it was one of a kind. Valkyria Chronicles game-play is innovative and enjoyable, which why most people it more than most of the sRPG games. It was a departure from your standard sRPG game such as Disgaea

Valkyria Chrinicles goes beyond scores for me, it's a personal favorite. But out of all the awards it deserved to win, this one is the oddest and the least game-related I could have imagined it would get.
Now port Valkyria Chronicles 2 on PS3 Sega!! Oh and add more females, the game is a sausage fest from what I've heard.
Wonder how much Sega shelled out to Guinness to get that ruling... Are they seriously trying to suggest that a game is the best ever [whatever] on the basis of getting scores of 86 out of 100? Who made that decision, the California Board of Education? Or do SRPGs just all suck so bad that a low B is the best they can do?

$10 says someone over at SquareEnix sees this and ports the original FF Tactics over to the PS3 for shits and giggles. Guaranteed that can get better than an 86%. Jesus...
I'm not convinced by how they decided that it was the best for those two catagories, but I do think that Valkyria Chronicles is the best RPG for the PS3 even now.
In fact I'll easily put it in the top 5 games released so far.

Don't worry - one day, your brother is going to realize that trophies/achievements are a big fat waste of time.
It took me 13 Platinum Trophies and several 100% PSN games (included MvC2, which was a complete pain to 100%) to finally realize that I was playing games not for fun, but to increase some arbitrary number.
The game that did it for me was SAW. I borrowed it from a friend, and about 1/3 of the way through, realized it was the worst game I'd ever played and was ONLY playing it to get a few trophies.
Refusing to play games because they lack trophies will mean you are going to miss out on not just Valkyria Chronicles, but also Metal Gear Solid 4, Eternal Sonata and several other great games.

Wat? 86% on gamerankings are something to be proud of nowadays? They should be ashamed of such a low score instead. (Not that scores would matter anyway) OoT got 97.48% and still kicks ass.

The game is awesome. I've yet to get through the "Behind her blue flame" DLC... (I think that's the name). Glad it's getting some recognition (although weak) and I hope more is done with the series.
That's one fine example of good DLC. Completed it several times, and I still love it.

I actually consider Valkyria Chronicles the best PS3 game so far, with only Demon's Souls coming close and with Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and Uncharted 2 coming up in my personal list.
The anime-characterizations with the characters are very charming even if they run with the cliches and the same goes for the story.
Strategy-wise, the game series is actually innovative in how it plays out and VC2 only improved the formula.
And add on a BEAUTIFUL artistic style to the game series and the legendary Hitoshi Sakimoto soundtracks and you have a winner. EASILY the best PSP and PS3 SRPG IMO. Though recently, Peace Walker Metal Gear Solid game does give it a run for its money. But I still prefer the amazing charm-factor of the Valkyria Chronicles series.
That said, I also want to see a second VC anime based on the second game.
It's not a BAD game (I bought it, played it, liked it) but this is more a comment on how sad the RPG offerings are for the PS3.
Yes, the PS3's RPG offerings really are pathetic. Sony themselves have pushed the PS3 as an American-shooter console... an Xbox-competitor and nothing but an Xbox-competitor. Any RPGs face an uphill battle, and it has scared off new games.

This game really needs a sequel on the PS3, although given how the first game ended storyline-wise, I doubt any of the original cast would make the cut.
I feel like ratings are based on people's opinions rather than a true measure.. I don't think it really belongs in the record books

i love sega :D but they're decisions on this gen are slightly off. realeasing End of eternity and yakuza 3(with remove content) around XIII. but at least they publish games like bayonetta, vanquis and yakuza 4 and so on. honestly i would love a new shinobi that would be awesome :)
Sega is still around I am glad they release After Burn Climax It was fun while it lasted. I never really was interested in Valkyria Chronicles plus its a hard to find title.
I loved this game. did beat the game 3 times and got the DLCs for it.
