The cosplay contingent at American anime event Anime Expo 2010 has been subjected to a great deal of photographic scrutiny, all of it less than overpowering…
A selection of photos culled from a variety of sources seems to suggest nobody had much luck in capturing any cosplay of enduring quality, although they did at least filter out the worst of the overweight and/or Naruto-related:
Depressingly these represent the best of what was on offer – there was much worse at hand it seems.

Anyone who was actually there saw a quite a few really good cosplayers. Someone told me they even saw a transformer that could actually transform.

jet and inuyasha/his brother were really good, definetley quality right there.
...not really. I was there. All I saw were cows trying to cosplay SOS団 and tools trying to play Naruto. This year was fail. :(
The sheer number of cosplayers at AX this year meant you had a lot of good, lot of mediocre, and lot of bad. I don't know where you've been looking for photos but anyone there saw a lot of the good ones which are underrepresented in this article.

Yeah, this anime-expo cosplay quality seriously feels lacking.

I'm hoping that Otakon will have better quality, but it's not looking good after seeing this.
Number 20 is better with the helmet on rather than off, regarding of the cosplay of the character.
I guess anything will be better than Prince Zelda.

I actually went to Anime Expo and I actually saw all those cosplayers... Meh they are OK, but nothing special.
I only approve of the Porco Rosco cospaly, though vash wans't too bad either.....
This is why I am ashamed of my Otakuness. I don't want to be friends with any of those people.
I took some awesome pics of cosplayers while there, though I did hear that this year was just terrible compared to other years.

That's not true. I post frequently and usually have no idea where my comment will end up in the thread. It seem to take 5 minutes or longer before I start to see the flow of comments. When posting, the system even warns you "If your comment fails to display immediately, please do not worry - it should appear shortly."
I demand another Cosplay Panchira article!!! There's only been one, and there's only a handful of other panchira articles.

I found it pretty good. Not amazing, but then cosplay rarely if ever is.
Now that you mention it, I think that if I was there, I'd be taking tons of pictures. Initially, I thought "bad cosplay". Then I realized just how appalling most cosplayers are when I attend coscons personally. These cosplayers deserve some credit I guess

Yeh, I was there and saw a few of those guys. They were by far the best compared to the majority....by the time I was getting on the train to leave, I'd had my fill of seeing fat-asses cosplaying as bishounen, fail crossplayers, and the obligatory horde of narutards.
Oh, but I remember seeing a really good cosplay of a witch from L4D. The only thing she was missing was the witch music playing in the background, then we'd all have to skirt around her in the main hall.

I think with any con, there's going to be good and bad. But yeah, if you're displaying pictures with shitty point and shoot cameras, it's going to look bad no matter how you spin it. As someone mentioned earlier, a lot of the Japanese cosplay are shot with DSLR with a shit load of post editing. There's a group on flickr that has this year's expo picture. Some are pretty decent
