Nintendo Announces 3DS, Metal Gear Launch Title

Nintendo’s E3 performance included a full announcement of its 3DS console, which appears to have been very well received indeed.
A variety of new features are included:
A 3.5 inch 3D screen (the lower screen is non-3D, and is the only screen to feature touch capabilities)
3D depth slider
Increased resolution
Analog pad
Motion & gyroscopic sensor
3D video distribution and playback
A 3D camera
Just how much of an upgrade to its formerly rather limited graphical capabilities can be seen below:
As well as this, a new Metal Gear Solid title will be gracing the system, along with Resident Evil, Ninja Gaiden and Assassin’s Creed. Backwards compatibility is apparently to be fully maintained.
The Wii’s struggling software lineup has also been given a substantial boost, with a new Zelda title, Metroid Other M, a slew of casual titles unworthy of specific mention, and a Golden Eye remake, amongst others.
Whether this can arrest the Wii’s decline seems doubtful, but the 3DS certainly seems to seal the fate of the PSP.

Nah I doubt this thing can "kill" the PSP...the 80% of the games for DS are for litte kids...the funny thing is that the Higurashi no naku koro ni for the DS has less censorship than the PS2 version (a lot of CG's,blood and even "nudity").

Kirby and Donkey Kong Country are apparently casual games, confirmed.
Most of these games are just being used for demonstration. Metal Gear Solid 3 is just a port. No one will know if they will become games.

The art direction and animation is amazing, but I want a new IP to go with that freshness. They seem incompatible.
Sony might as well give up the handheld market now lol, the 3DS looks awesome as fuck.

MGS was clearly a pre-rendered trailer, if you look at some screenshots for the actual games they look pretty much like N64 titles.. Totally underwhelmed so far.. and from what i've read the actual 3d has a pretty small sweet spot which anything outside of that it won't work...

Because we all know PSP was always so much better than the DS. So many more excellent games available, battery that lives forever, screen that's impossible to scratch and damage while having the console in your pocket, comfortable to handle, compact...

This thing looks pretty nice. The software line-up is the real draw. The PSP was completely mishandled. It's fate was sealed from day 1.
My mind is still blown by the choice of Sony and Nintendo to have even made entirely new handheld systems when they could have turned their older/current gen systems into portables. I would have sprung for a portable Gamecube back in the day or a PS1+2 handheld. Instead they make 2 new formats and new systems while putting the nail in the coffin for the older systems and their libraries (a weak point for Gamecube).

Wow! MGS will be a on Nindendo 3DS, well, it's pretty cool, huh... I think i will buy this one... As Hideo said, that the future will be for a portable consoles. Anyway i'm want to see what think about that Sony, what answer will be ^_^

Gah! why did they position the Analog stick on over the D-pad? shouldn't it be the other way around for it to feel natural?
I suppose the analog stick will be the main input and the d pad is just a secondary thing for most games now.
Excited just because of Dead or Alive.
Though the 3D gimmick is rather pointless, it's tough enough to play DS Lite in a bus while having the sun shine directly at your screens, I suppose a 3D screen won't make it any better.
I didn't even notice Dead or Alive 3D was announced, looks like Icarus isn't the game I'm looking forward to most anymore

I had the original for a long time and nothing was ever wrong with it, and then I decided to switch to a DS lite. The hinges connecting the two screens are loose, as if they could fall off.
I wonder if Sony will announce a PSP2 too. It would be about time.

I've never purchased a Nintendo console since my SNES era. But seeing those images of Dead or Alive and MetalGear were the push needed to buy this hand-held console.
