Angel Beats Tribute or Plagiarism?

The cover of the latest release of Girls Dead Monster, the girl band featured in “Angel Beats!”, has caught the attention of music enthusiasts due to its uncanny resemblance to the cover of a famous rock album…
The album in question is Bon Jovi’s Keep The Faith, and the resemblance between the two album covers appears undeniable – the Keep The Beats! title being something of a giveaway.
Whilst some fans might call this an innocent tribute to one of the more famous rock bands of the previous century, others appear inclined to think that the show lazily filched the album cover in tribute to the creative abilities of a certain Simmons.
Whatever the case, given the performance of anime songs of late, success seems assured.

I personally think it's more of a tribute than anything else. It looks too similar to be a coincedence, and the names having only one word of difference suggests to me that it intends to be a tribute.
tribute. because I love Angel Beats!
TRIBUTE! ¯ 3 ¯
There's a big difference between this and all of the other stories of something blatantly ripping off another. When an artists rips off another game or manga or comic, or when an author takes off whole pages for a novel, the intent is to take someone else's work and profit from it. This is not a case like that. The cover for the album makes no real difference.
Anyone who was actually paying attention would know that this sort of thing is basically standard practice when it comes to albums from anime, especially lately. Nearly every beetles album cover has been done to death in this way, so this is at least fresher by a couple decades.
So when the Simpsons do it* it's a tribute but when an anime does it's plagiarism?
because the Simpsons are not haunted by bored virgin NEET lolicons of 2ch...
actually I find your comment pretty shitty lol... I've seen this anime and they mention famous things all the time, such as Bob Dylan for example... but they DON'T take a single thing... they just say:
- knokin' on heaven's door
- That's a bob dylan's song isn't it?
so.... lol with this... it's a tribute just like that...
Quite similar to Abbey Road or unless Bon Jovi is hardly famous, i'll say it's a tribute.
Sigh... Plagiarism or Tribute, it all depends on whether you hate it or like it.
Tribute ?? Rotfl ... But when it comes to china it's plagiarism ... Yes if the news was about china releasing album with front cover like this i'm sure that most of poeple saying that this is innocent tribute will bash the china once again .
One... this is not China lol...
Two... that's not plagiarism, they pay a little of money to the company to have the right of making cheap imitation of their creations lol x2
I'd say homage. But when China does it they really imitate it down to the littlest details. At least this one is using different hands and different colors on a different medium. I forgot to mention they are DIFFERENT!
It's obviously supposed to be a parody directly referencing the Bon Jovi album cover, anyone calls this plaigarism needs to learn the definition of the word.
Definitely seems like more of an homage or in-joke than plagiarism.
They also ripped off Lala from To Love Ru with Yui. That episode with her OP even had similar camera styles.
Just pointing that out.
JUST SHUT UP!!!
DAME OR DAMMIT?!?
...
Ezequiel (since I can't put my name lol)
I've seen the entire anime and believe me... it's a tribute D=... they mention too many famous things such as Bob Dylan for example xD and so as the others it IS a tribute xDDDD so stop arguing lol
Tribute. There's nothing sneaky or underhanded about the cover.
Tribute. The inclusion of the added twist in the ghost hand representing their fallen member bring enough freshness to have its own merit.
The resemblence is so uncanny that it must be a tribute.
That Anime and Manga is living on a Prayer.
"Take my hand, we'll make it I swear. Whoah oh, living on a prayer.
It's a tribute. The album cover is not the focus point of what you're buying. Had all the songs bore a resemblance to Bon Jovi's, it'd be plagiarism.
Tribute, no matter how you see it. One has to be extremely anal to call this "simmonizing".
I've seen tons of Abbey Road cover imitations on CD covers of different musicians, surely you can't say these musicians are all plagiarizing the Beatles?
It's obviously a tribute. What the fuck else would it be. Plagiarism? Come on. Goddamn SanCom, are you that retarded?
Are people really this retarded? It's just a simple tribute. This is nothing like that simmons fiasco.
It's just a homage. Get over it, it happens all the time between musicians.
If it's a tribute, it's a good one. Iwasawa's hand was a nice touch, I think. It's hard to make a case for this being plagiarism.
True, I really miss Iwasawa-san. The fact that the show discarded the good female characters and keeping that annoying so-called faggot on the major role makes me want to throw a skunk bomb into Maeda's house..
Nah, definitely plagiarized. If you line the hands up correctly you can totally see that it was traced. What an atrocity.
seems some people are blind because there are two totally different point between the two. GDM cover has a vanishing hand and not a photograph taken from a camera, it's in an anime format. The Idea may have been copied but certainly not the style, what idea hasn't been copied every now and then?
Obviously, it's a tribute. The creators tried to make that clear by the details right down to the lettering of the text. This a natural thing that happens in music. For example, how many artists have done a variation of The Beatles' Abbey Road cover? With all these recent lame reports, you guys are killing the whole "Simmonsing" thing before it even has a chance to live a full life. Come on.
Now they raise an issue about plagiarism after the obvious Haruhi-Yuri thing? lol, please eh?
cool!! I love both Angel Beats and Bon Jovi... ^_________^
it's definitely a tribute... ^_______^
you best be trollin'
you guys dont stand in sides and watch it from affar, every judgement is possible ... besides who cares ...
Ugh... It's just a tribute.
Plagiarism? How stupid can you be? Of course it's a tribute, isn't it more than obvious?
So we have a Haruhi 'tribute' in the main role, and Bon Jovi 'tribute' in the OST. Any others 'tributes'?
well most of tk's line are said to be reference to songs lyrics translated in english
Naoi pretty much a tribute to Naoto (persona 4)
sorry if my english suck
lets see here. ill just write what the haruhi in my head looks like in simple form.
confidant
bossy
happy
assertive
"pretty" (in anime everything is pretty, so... yea)
now from those 5 things, imagine what the girl looks like.
it kind of looks like haruhi huh? most will unless there character design realy doesnt suit the character.
and for the record, i never watched or cared about angel beats. so im not defending it, i just like being devils advocate, on things like this.
tribute indeed :D
(maybe) tribute, have all details and letters font
bonjovi... still alive? O_O U
Alive... but not kicking. I really loved their 90's songs.
It's just an innocent tribute.
Don't see any problems here.
It's not like a little tribute is gonna push sales through the roof.
But I do like the fact they included Iwasawa's spirit-hand. I miss her =(
Wut... that is just probably a tribute.
dunno why... this is the first time i see so much "tribute" words
is this sankakucomplex?
The phrase keep the beats makes it seem more like a tribute so it makes it more obvious. If it's glaringly obvious and it's not for profit I usually say it's a tribute.
There are tribute bands though that make money.
