Dragon Quest character designer is the same one of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dr. Slump, Blue Dragon adn Chrono Trigger. One of the most famous mangaka's in history, Akira Toriyama!!!!!!!!!

Read the first volumes of Dragonball, Bulma is naked on several occasion and Dragonball came out in 84'.
He's done it since the beginning; he's responsible for the iconic Slime design.

Countless others here in the west already tried this idea of scannable cards + gameplay, but they failed badly as far as I remember.
Hopefully I'll have the chance to play this in a few years when an emulator is released. Like when I'm 30. :/

Not really ero in my eyes.
As a gamer it looks very modest to me. Most of them have some kind of ample coverage.
Considering that Toriyama designs don't exactly lend themselves well to ero, the outcome of this is surprisingly pleasing.
I'm all for fanservice in games. Well, nothing so over the top it prevents it from being an actual game *coughDoAVolleyballcough*, but it's nice to have something fun to look at. That said, Toriyama to me seems overrated. I know you could probably say this about 90% of anime and manga art, but his characters all look the same, and the style hasn't transferred well into the modern aesthetic.
