Official: Evangelion Better Than Michael Jackson

Surpassing initial expectations, Evangelion 2.22 has outsold even the mouldering corpse of Michael Jackson to become the best selling Blu-ray ever.
Oricon statistics show that in its first week the movie’s Blu-ray release sold a magnificent 357,000 copies, the best selling Blu-ray ever in Japan – the runner up being the zombie prince of pederasty Michael Jackson, with his posthumously released “This Is It” garnering only a pathetic 351,000 copies.
Combined DVD and Blu-ray sales are already said to have reached 640,000 – the best selling “anime” anime of all time, and the 14th best selling anime ever – only mass market Ghibli and Disney animation boasts higher sales in Japan.

I rewatched Eva multiple times...I deny the fact of "Time wasted" cos' I enjoyed re-watching
i like to think of it like this. If Eva can beat "this is it" international sales then I'll be impressed. as of now it just mean it's the shit in Japan. which really doesn't affect me at all
So in japan an anime movie is succesful. . . is that suposed to be a surprise?
When international sales make that much sales, now that would be something. . .
But is not going to happen anytime soon... especially with people that are already downloading this movie.
And why numbers are supouse to mean that something is better? by that logic Jersey Shore must be a hell of a show, right?

Maybe he was messed up, maybe he had some moral issues, but that doesn't mean that his songs are bad. I don't care who's singing a good song as long as they're singing it...they did sing it....Still, whether he was innocent or not, whoever accused him still won by ruining his reputation forever.
Still, I'm happier to hear that Evangelion will still likely be remembered for another 25 years....It's not like there's going to be another recent anime that'll become a bigger classic. Everything's just so forgettable nowadays.

Okay, how can you compare a MUSIC ARTIST to a MANGA ARTISTS works, and go around bashing? O_o Upon that, if you haven't read up, after MJ died the FBI released files saying a lot of stuff he was accused of he did not do (that includes the pedophile-based things). Okay, I enjoy both EVA and MJ, but comparing music to anime sells is off. MJ may have been weird, yes, but he inspired MANY artists, dancers, and performers. Yes, those sales were about roughly 2% in difference, but check how many copies "Thriller" sold (1.27 million worldwide altogether). Next time, try to compare anime sales to anime sales, and not to a man who had to fight his own demons alot as well as alot of demons people threw at him.
My anime-hating, stereotype-believing, Michael Jackson -loving, need-to-watch-NGE-denying, douchebag friend of mine just raged at this news. :D

I liked Neon Genesis Evangelion. I thought it was a pretty good show but I can't help but think it's only popular in Japan because of Rei and Asuka.

There's something wrong with you guys comparing Evangelion to Michael Jackson sales. Hes the king of pop way before most of us were even born. Even huge debuts with The Jacksons. Thats History. So if you think about it, most of his adoring fans would not be into the present tech like bluray.

Drop that Crystal Clear phrase. It has been used repeatedly since Beta cassette. BD has the best picture quality just now, but are you sure technical development has reached it`s end?
by TODAY'S standards, and relative to all other current forms of video, BD is as "crystal-clear" as it's going to get anytime soon (as in, in the next year or so, at least). Heck, back in the days of Beta Cassette, we thought that was as good as it was going to get. And the Atari 2600, everyone thought that that was the epitome of gaming. And look where we are now.
There's no problem with calling BD "crystal-clear", because, for all WE'RE concerned TODAY, it IS "crystal-clear."
Remember that theres a lot of anime fans in japan that maybe buyed 10 copies of the same movie. . . so maybe we have to change those numbers
