Evangelion 2.22 Sells 320,000 on First Day Alone

The DVD and Blu-ray release of Evangelion 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance has proven a record-breaking success, with a total of 320,000 copies being sold on the first day alone.
Oricon is reporting the Blu-ray edition sold 195,000 copies, and the DVD 124,000 on the opening day, setting a new record for BD sales at the expense of the previous daily sales record holder, the late Michael Jackson. It may be on track to become one of Japan’s top selling Blu-ray discs of all time.
To date, the preceding Evangelion 1.* releases have sold 521,000, suggesting the sequel is already on track for exceeding those already impressive figures by a substantial margin. Late night anime are lucky to sell 10,000 copies, further illustrating the gulf between Evangelion and most other non-Ghibli anime.

i myself also believe in this not only because Kaworu is always talking like it has happened before but because of the blood trail on the moon (left by the big Rei in EoE) and other graphical hints like that
and since there's only episodes 20-24 left to cover with the next 2 movies i belive we'll get a movie and a half time of the "new end" or maybe there'll be no end after all and everyone will live happily ever after >_>;;
If memory serves me right, FLCL and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann where quite successful.

It's sad that Gainax was never able to produce another hit, but instead is content to continue milking money off the Evangelion franchise.
The movie will probably be a flop if it didn't have the Evangelion name. It's like Square-Enix, they can't produce anything that can sell except Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

I was in Akiba when this was released. The entire 2 weeks before hand, the stupid song was playing at every Lamtarra, Animate, Asobitcity....it made we wanna put a bullet in my head.
I understand why they want a Blu Ray delay, but why not go ahead with the DVD in North America? I didn't like the TV series, but I loved 1.0, and it's fucking frustrating that it's out in Japan, but probably only in the pre-production phase in North America. Assuming Funimation even has the license yet. Why do the Japanese companies have to be so hardass about this?

Having personally seen it in a cinema, I and many others can confirm that there were thunderous applause and hardly a boo as soon as THAT post-credit scene plus stunning preview. Surely Anno Hideaki must have done something right to make rabid fanboys (AND fangirls), both old school and "newfags", "illiterate teenagers", etc, to gladly part with their cash for what was SUPPOSED to be a rehash of a story they know by the back of their hand.
It's like providing a service, and those coming back are loyal customers delightfully surprised that the service they've normally expected has now gone better.

I watched this last night it was awesome , now just the long wait for the next one to come out

More to the point, is any decent subbing group going to 720p this? My stone-age graphics card just isn't gonna be able to take 1080p.
Just open it with a video editor and save it as 720x1280.
You don't have to have the latest videocard to watch FullHD. 1080p playback is completely fine with quadcore and integrated (!) video card. That said, my P4 HT 3.2GHz lags 1080p as hell even with fully DXVA-compatible Radeon 4770.
Buy a dualcore.
I want to buy a multicore soon, but not 'till june, so a decent 480p rip would be great for now.

No-fucking-thank-you to a live Eva movie. Somethings just don't translate well to the screen. I believe Eva to most certainly be one of them.

With hollywoods money and staff that made second movie possible an actual life action Evangelion might be quite good. But if they hire some unknown-wanna-be-big yankee who's best achievement is directing childs play. Then the movie will suck balls.

Better make something new on the same level of "epicness", than "use and reuse" the same story.
I kind of agree, but think about it this way. Imagine Mari's part at the end with Asuka instead. That would have been pretty epic in its own right. Then again the preview after the credits make it seem to be worth it.

I actually liked the Saikano Live Action. I saw it as an alternative universe to the manga and the anime, which, to be fair, were different to each other again. Out of all three I preferred the anime, with the live action and manga coming second...

Even the Japanese live actions are not always successful. For example, there is the Saishuu Heiki Kanojo live action movie... If you saw it and the anime or read the manga, you know what am I speaking about.
It's honestly heartwarming to see sales being good for such things. I'm sick and tired of what piracy is causing, and people have the gall to think it makes them special, and it's their right to cause companies who make good stuff fail and die because they're poor. That's all it means when we pirate and don't support the stuff we love: we're poor and lazy. That's all it means.
I torrent fansubbed anime and treat it as "This is on TV now." Once I watch something on TV and love it, like Firefly, I buy it because I love it and want to own it. The same goes for anime. I buy all the series I loved. And I sincerely hope the under-20s generation comes to understand what the rampant piracy really is doing. Pretending that you heard somewhere that piracy is helping in the end really is just a made up story a bunch of people said to justify their being stingy. Yes it helped, years ago, when anime didn't exist here. Please stop pretending it's the same thing as then, it really is disgusting.
The Eva movie was going to be made by ADV, which no longer exists. The people behind it claim it's still going forward, but I don't believe it. I bet it's dead.
