Walmart, Chinese Style

Walmart’s Chinese stores have recently been the subject of some attention for their unusual selection of merchandise, to western eyes at least. Live frogs and iced crocodile are amongst the most innocuous products seen in Chinese shops, but not normally the sort of thing seen in a Walmart…
A lack of cat or dog meat unfortunately precludes an enjoyable media frenzy in the US, although it is probably best not to enquire too deeply into the content of some of these foodstuffs.

Believe me in saying this, but a lot of Chinese friends or schoolmates I knew are pretty revulsed at lousy Chinese goods and exotic "cuisine". Unless they have parents who are very naive and believe in urban myths about health benefits of eating certain exotic animals, most Chinese do not even touch this stuff. Likewise, EVERY Korean person I have ever known pretty much revulse at the thought of eating dogs nowadays. Though eating barbecued silkworm coccoons and live squid and stuff are apparently still pretty vogue. lol
Most of my Korean students have eatten dog meat, they're just fine with it, it's just not easy for foreigners to find since they know a lot of outsiders look down on it. But really, it's no diff than eatting any other meat.
Anti-bacterial.... lol
Read closer~
"Anti-bacteral"
If that's really a full-man suit, why does it have a waist band like normal boxers/pants? >_>
Dude, it's China... -_-
Dude...We used to make jokes that Americans would scream at a whole fish with heads being served to them, because all they eat are fish fillets
um, yeah he can. and i think he just did. he's neither right or wrong because it's just an opinion.
personally, i see nothing wrong with the pictures above. or anything in any of the "china style" articles. then again, i do go skipping on a daily bases. its' just so darn cheap.
Dude... Penis.
Dude... Have you considered that sausages also come from the intestines of the animal itself? Then also take account that Japan serve fresh animal organs ranging from the heart to the intestines, without being cooked at all. And it's considered a delicacy.
You can't just say something is weird or creepy just because you weren't brought up with it.
Some looked tasty, some looked disgusting, but at least it's anti-bacterial!

Little do you know, majority of the asian supermarkets in the US are like that. Minus the alligators and stacked up eels. Some people do soak meat in water for hours prior to cooking.
You can prepare the meat as you like. I've already eaten it deep fried, it's delicious. It tastes like chicken, and the texture is something between fish and chicken.
"Pig's snouts are just plain creepy."
It's not that bad, the crocs and frogs were weird fore sure, but we have worse in the west. Have you ever visited a Butchery? have you seen how they make sausages? have you ever pondered that yogurt is a cow's bodily fluids in a state of putrefaction?
Excuse me, I think I'm hungry now.
All i saw was meat and was starting to think walmart china looked meaty. Then i scrolled down a bit further and saw the pants. FUUUUUUUUUUU.
How do you peel the alligator? It is eadable? They deep fry it or bake it?
L O FUCKING L @ SEWAGE OIL rofllll
Like another poster said Asian Supermarkets here in the US do this all the time, and the open air meat/fish markets in S. Korea are the same way. I personally saw raw fish sitting on crates next to the road with nothing but rock salt thrown over it in the middle of summer. If you want fresh you get it in the morning, but you pay a premium for it. The longer it sits out the cheaper it gets.

IINM, in Spain, they roast and eat a pig whole.
Its a delicacy, I think. A relative still hurls at the thought of such memories.
So it should be normal for Spanish people who have seen this.
Is that some sewage oil in the last pic? ^_^
WTF China, seriously, this is not healthy at all, everyone touching the same piece of alligator and who knows where their hands been!! the Pig's snouts are just plain creepy.
The Big Question;
Is the oil REALLY "oil"?
And is the orange juice REALLY "orange juice"? O.O
ror! chinese warmalt.
hahaha i see what you did there
Was that a onesies man. Does it snap on at the bottom too...

You just had to sneak in a "trap" in this gallery as well, eh Arte?
that is so not right. humans eat crocodile. that is not cool. still not a good idea.
I never saw Alligator in any of the stores I visited in China, mostly Carrefour and Hao You Duo, I avoid Wal-mart cause its evil, but all the rest was pretty normal and common things to find in the stores, Never bothered me as an American.
Walmart is Evil?
Interesting. Exactly why? Because they employ Asian workers or because they underpay their workers?
Did you know in Asia they are hailed as heros? They brought jobs to China. They continue to bring jobs to the Chinese that pay better than average wages.
Maybe its because you've been listening to the American hype about how Walmart abuses America.
I don't know. Just a fellow American, living in China, frustrated with the Chinese system. However, I acknowledge when someone does right by someone else, and Walmart has done nothing TO us, but they've done a LOT for China.
Looks like a standard chinese supermarket. I guess the only shocker here is that it's in walmart.
Oh but I've never seen crocodile for sale. Not that it surprises me. Certainly you can eat it. Looks kinda cool actually.
The only thing I's got to ask in those pics...
Why do some of those products have English on them for a Chinese public?
I get Japanese since for all intent they learned English in school.. but China?
well bet ya didn't know many schools in china if not all of them nowadays offers english as their third main course only after chinese and math. I know cause I took a full six years of english main course during elementary school back in china..anyways damn the crocodiles making me hungry!
Anti-Bacterial dong hammocks??? Crazy Chinese!
Why does it feel like whenever there's English text amongst Chinese text that it's more disgusting than the rest?
Love going to Chinese markets and laugh at all the incorrect spelling of words in English.
lol Chinese Wally-world
各位洋大人真是无知的可以。

果汁配食用油的确奇怪了,但会有爱贪便宜的大妈去在意的
最后的内衣,那是呆在货架最底层的那一类,唯一的错误就是应该写拼音而不是英语
Appearntly you don't realize the fact that most people here speaks in English instead of Chinese. You're just as ignorant as the rest of us.
you moron! use the live translation
Translation from Google translate:
"Members of foreigners can be really ignorant.
The meat without any problem, and I can guarantee than I eat meat in France have a good
Indeed, strange fruit juice with oil, but will love to be cheap to care for aunt
Finally underwear, that is to stay the kind of the bottom shelf, the only mistake is that you should write in English spelling, rather than."
yes, foreign members can be ignorant, but if this all new to you. "welcome to the internet". The fact that you seem offended is a bit of a concern as you didnt try to understand that the title "Wallmart chinese style" is a form of satire or juxtapositional humour (as wallmart is in a different culture to chinese; a different culture).
Also, please comment in English(most of the readers use English), or at least use Traditional characters (so i can read more easily)
why the fuck would they use traditional? Mainland Chinese use simplify, not 鸟语.
I've ate frog legs quite often, bought some to do them myself too but it was freezed, and there was only the legs, considering how little there is on one leg (once cooked), I don't think they buy it whole just for that.
The frogs aren't that weird...it tastes like sweetened chicken.
But I'm reall curious about what the alligators must taste like.
Tastes like chicken too, if only a bit tougher from what I heard... In fact it may be argued that old chicken tastes like croc meat instead, having no taste of it's own...
No, seriously, who cares.
It's not because it's uncommon, that it's bad.
In the Islam their eyes, we're barbarians, because we eat pig meat.
It's just culture dependant, they're both meat. It's not less cruel to kill a cow than to kill an alligator. Maybe it's uncommon, but if you eat animals, don't start to act hypocritic when other cultures eat other animals.
Looks yummy.
Anyone here ever have properly prepared Gator tail? It's a Florida delicacy, freaking awesome. The stuff I had was spicy I don't know if its naturally like that but it's also kinda fishy.
Pict No11. Somekind of internal organs.Tiger testicle perhaps.Saw one during a trip.
where is this.. oh china... as usual...
though i wanna try the crocs, wanna find if they really taste like chicken, as what many said
What's wrong with crocodiles. I've seen them on menu on a restaurant in UK. No, it's not a Chinese restaurant.
