Knights Contract: “Bandai’s Bayonetta”

Bandai Namco have announced a new fantasy themed action game for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011, “Knights Contract,” and the title was instantly likened to Bayonetta, both for style of action and the presence of saucy sorceress.
Less flatteringly, the usual contrived macho character design seems to have crept in again.
Whatever the quality of the final game, at this stage it certainly appears to have failed in the originality department – a generic Xbox hulk and a Bayonetta clone combine in a staid dark fantasy setting looking rather similar to a dozen other recent titles.
Bandai has even gone so far as to emulate the awkward Japanese English naming of Demon’s Souls…

The animations are very static and un-fluid in motion. Also, the gameplay looks like it sucks compared to Ninja Gaiden and DMC. Japan is trying too hard for the macho thing too. I myself have nothing wrong with an actual strong looking character, but there's a point where muscle size is beyond reasonable. It's muscle density and mass that matters! The only thing I equally hate though is the bishounen hero who looks pathetically weak enough not to even lift a sword yet swings it like it has no weight. So this is just another bad title bullshitting for stereotypical demographics, japanese, american (which is wrong too in stereotype by the way), or whatever else.
Don't forget their is a hidden male body image problem in America. Stuff like this just feeds the belief that American males must be muscular or tall in order to be happy. Young male teens in todays world don't understand the difference between being healthy and having tons of muscles.
Muscles doesn't mean your extra healthy on the inside is what I'm getting at. There are many Healthy skinny guys out there but in America many people stereptype and bully males just for being skinny or short.
Hey its like FATE/STAY NIGHT but with the opposite gender and classes.
"...a generic Xbox hulk and a Bayonetta clone..."
Really quick, two, maybe two and a half things.
In dissing the main hero guy for being a "Generic hulk" and calling it "Unflattering", aren't you suggesting that it'd be slightly better if they put in some wimpy looking girly man for the role?
For the "Bayonetta Clone" bit, Sorceresses were in long before Bayonetta ever came in. And considering that the "Clone" doesn't strip naked to attack and not wearing a skin-tight bodysuit, the only real comparison is possibly the play style and maybe how it zooms in when she does a special move isn't really that big of a deal.
Anyone else see the resemblance to Berserk except me? The main character, setting, and monsters all seem to have been taken right out of the anime/manga.
Ummmm Guts from berserk would of been better. He wasn't ugly or stupidly big.
hey cable what are you doing in a japanese game?
I think all westerners really want is a normal guy like Bash from FFXII. Muscles, height, and big swords don't make a man masculine. All of it is just childish sterotypes from a group of xenophobic greedy Japanese devs.
Btw Japan devs need to go back to making games with heart and soul the way they want. Ninja Gaiden black was good because Itagaki made it in his vision. Devs need to first care about their games, characters, etc and stop caring about what westerners will think
anybody else see that penis above her wrist?
WTF its really a cock
No... Sir... No one did...
I'm sorry to tell you that your addicted to making everything look like a penis...
Atleast she looks better than bayonetta..
Hey now, Bayo's design came from the heart. Games turn out good when devs make games based on what they themselves like. Knights Contract like Nier is just Macho Bullcrap just to get sells from westerners or mostly Americans.
NOTHING like Bayonetta. Nothing. Don't even think about insulting Bayonetta. This game looks undesirable already.
Bayonetta + Dantes Inferno?
Reminds me of Haseo.
Seriously... Everyone is bitching about who stereotyped who and what dev's think. i think you all forgot one thing. if they keep making a certain game or character type over and over and over again, its because... IT FUCKING SELLS!!! Oh my god! don't like it, don't buy it! But no, they know the gimmicks, they know what people (mostly male) will but. A lil boob here, some cool guns there, etc. An lets not for get people they make these games for a select group of people (whatever sells in a particular demographic). Just try to think, when was the last time you played a really fun game that didn't rely on some gimmick. Like one special game play feature (bullet time) or sex (bouncing boobs, see-through clothing) or HD Graphics. Sigh... Remember when games were just fun...
is it just my feeling that the big guy looked like ( not resemble but the nuance, the feel ) beyond the grave and the girl looked like mika asagiri. . . hmmm
*play gungrave again
nobody noticed the demons bleed milk?
not milk, They bleed "Soma"
this article is crap, beefy dude & a sexy girl what a horrible game
xbox is clearly muy macho compared to ps3, which is a sophisticated machine for intellectuals such as myself.
omg what a total ripoff of diablo
Did Square Enix hire Rob Liefeld to do their male character designs?
What's so bad about Macho character's anyways? And besides the look of this game doesn't seem as campy as bayonetta was, dunno if its a good thing or not, but I would hardly compare the two game just on the basis that they have two sexy female characters.
Macho characters are only cool if they look like Guts from berserk............NOT white hair steroidic retarded looking cave men with slut women.
Japs need to stop stereotyping the west damnit. shits getting annoying now.
its that they're macho that its bad
"macho" has become the new mass market cop out. Kind of like when fps were coming out every other week.
"What's so bad about Macho character's anyways?"
There's way too many of them.
So many...rip-offs
Your right! Bayonetta ripped off of Devil May Cry :P
(I know they were made by the same guy :D)
So it's not a rip off idiot.
Wish people would stop bitching about 'MACHO MEN AH-GRRRR'. They aren't reaching the point of a disgusting stereotype yet, so it's fine.
Not to mention - the girly-boy archetype has been so overused, these MAHCHOOOO guys are considered a fucking 'refreshing' change.
...um both are overused(although the "meat head" archetype has been use little bit after the start of time) if you ask me I'll like to see more offbeat arc's like badass without a gun like rock from black lagoon, or the pyco with the heart of gold like dexder Morgan, eta
The guy reminded me of Darksiders ._.
Hard to make original games nowadays.
Rip-off is what i'm thinking
this definitely looks like a bayonetta clone, unless there is a deeper story to it or even less clothing, minus that hulking creature. I'm not gonna be buying this game
Its more Fable 2 clone then Bayonetta for a game.
... Darksiders.. anyone?.. anyone?
Looks more like DS then Bayonetta.
is that a dildo behind her
the hell its blonde it'll never sell we had too much blonde for a hero/heroine
I like it. Will probably buy it.
"Less flatteringly, the usual contrived macho character design seems to have crept in again."
Yes, because overly effeminate male physical-focused characters aren't contrived at all.
When a character is truly attractive, it's never contrived. But simply making a character unattractive isn't exactly going the right way if you ask me.
True enough. One of the joys of both Ninja gaiden, and DMC was being a badass character that doesn't look like a caveman.
haha, so true.
Nier and Dante's Inferno, had a love bastard child! This game is far removed from Bayonetta, in my opinion. It doesn't seem to offer anything new, so I think Ill pass on it.
So Nier is going to bomb in the west?
I will give Nier a try in the PS3. Sure, he looks like a caveman, but a burly guy trying to do something for his daughter... I dunno. I kinda see it as a novelty in the recent trend of games.
Just wondering if this game is gonna be as good as Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, or God of War...
For me, the game is awesome if it has epic final boss and epic ending, even if beginning and/or middle are slowpaced and boring. Bayonetta has it (I actually was bored middle-way, but forced myself to finish it. Oh was I impressed!)
This game doesnt look like it can deliver anything. I'll forget it for now.
It looks more like Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom. Probably most of it will play out like Dynasty Warrior except the giant bosses.
I worry mostly because I see a large lack of movement controls. I see combos, combos, combos, combos, and more combos. And all those combos are with both feet glued to the ground. Doesn't even look like there's a dash or dodge move, just a load of button mashing.
I would like it to be a good game, even if lacking in originality.
A good game is always a welcome addition, isn't it?
More like Fable then those other games.
I don't think so, unless they raise some fantastic Action game producer.
Dunno. But I think game mechanics will make or break this. If it doesn't have something setting itself apart from all the triple A act/adv games that've come out, it's going to die quietly, and out of public view.
