Alright. I'm gonna guess the guro part is the fact that the model has no "skin" and the sprues could sort of be thought of as organs or organ packs. One of those.

They're called both, depending on where you're from.

It's "sprue", not "spur".
The term originates in metallurgy.
As for "runners", I'm personally not familiar with that term. Among miniature hobbyists here in Canada (Ontario), I've only ever heard them referred to as sprue.

Sprue, runners, and gates are all roles of different parts involved in injection molding.
So I guess at some point people started calling the leftover material the same thing as the function it plays (ie. sprue and runners).
Now put glowing red light bulbs in it's head, turn the lights off in the room and invite your grandparents in, kekekekekeke...
