Though now generally associated with its sprawling complex of cities, where most of the population resides, most of Japan actually consists of forested mountain regions interspersed by hamlets and villages, often as picturesque as they are insignificant.
2ch has done its best to share a variety of these bucolic scenes:

NICE GALLERY~!
DownThemAll! does not work because you get the small non blown up versions.. I really do wish Sankaku would add a download zip to their picture threads.
not enough sepia filters.
Amazing photos!
Makes me even sadder to know that the expanding sun will turn this planet into a burning wasteland in the next 1 Billion years.
It is not absolutely certain, and scientist`s estimate that it will take over 4 billion years or more, before it happens. Science is not religion, every theory currently accepted can be changed if new research is able to modify it or even introduce radically different new theory.
In these delightful images only few are showing pure, unaltered nature, but they show signs of human culture, like agriculture, towns & villages or religious objects.
As someone pointed out already, it is probably thanks to shintoism most human influence in rural Japani is in harmony with nature.
And yet signs of civilization are still visible in every pic.
I believe pics 92,105,108, 112, 116, 117, 69, 67, 49 and 29 are of pure nature. More than i first thought.
Amazing!!!
Talking about Epic
No wonder why Japan has so many talented mind.
Beautiful environment... proves that you dont need nude ladies to say "awesome"
thanks best place to be
I'm Canadian, and a small town rural sort too.
Most of our population lives in 10 cities, and cities all look the same.
Canada is more or less the same as this gallery, although maybe a lot flatter in the middle not to mention a great deal larger :)
I like being able to walk to the edge of town, and know it will be mile after mile of mostly nothing much.
and whereabouts in canada are you from? yukon? lolz im from downtown toronto and hell is doesn't look like this
I guess you can find quite pretty landscapes in Quebec and in west, British Colombia inland and northwest. But village architecture and crops cultivating look very different from Japan, so those charms are not to be found there. Not here in Sweden either, but nature itself can be beautiful in parts.
I am from Vancouver and while there are many rural areas they certainly don't look like these.
Damn, Japan is sexy...
These are magical places right here. I feel inspired just by looking at the pictures.
I wish I could visit these places at least once.
Japan's on my first list of countries I visit
This gallery should tell you all how insignificant humanity truly is. Like rats; we humans cluster into tight confining spaces and lament how little breathing room we have all the days long.
Yet even in Japan those pictures shows it that there is uncountable acres of land untouched to this day. Libertards, abortionists(population controllers) and treehuggers are pathetic before those pictures and all their "save mother gaia" bullshit.
And here i thought population control (with human methods, of course) was good to prevent nature being destroyed!
I would like to understand your thinking, but it seems impossible for me...
How big you think world`s population should be? 20 billion? 150 billion? No limit? For what good? Should 500 billion people be good to stop forests being hugged down? I fear it`s the opposite.
makes me remember why i liked Japan to begin with. the urban areas are all oversaturated and fucked up. if i was there now, i'd be outside all the time. simple things like this always get lost among all the bullshit you hear now. If no one can afford to go, all of us at Sankaku should pool what money we have and go to visit rural Japan! if only...
Where is a typical horrible last image?
#123 is from the game Crysis. Way better than a fat naked guy holding his ass to the camera.
Rural scenes from any country is relaxing to look at.
But when it comes to ones in Japan, you'll always wonder "now what game/anime/manga have I seen that place from?"
Or at least, I'm the one who thinks like that. Can't speak for everyone here.
Wow. Japan is incredibly beautiful. If I could read, write, and speak the language I'd actually consider moving there for a little while.
Fap
the picture "japanese-countryside-123.jpg"
is faked ...
most of it is from the game 'Crysis' and then it have been photoshopped ...
Beautiful sceneries! Thank you very much! You should post more galleries like this.
Truly beautiful. It's like watching something out of a dream. (T^T)Almost brings me to tears. *sob*
Segoy
It'd be nice if I actually knew enough Japanese to survive out there on a visit.
Go kill yourself
Good timing. I need new wallpapers for my desktop.
I noticed two pictures are from a college professor's trip to rural China rather then japan. As to which ones I'm not saying since it'd ruin the fun of trying to figure them out.
china's rural is better
go bathe in the rainblow!
Kirei Desu ^o^
Another reason to go to Japan.
If I were to visit Japan, I'd want to go to places like this. Big cities are pretty much the same all over the world.
Does anyone know the name for those hillside pools in pictures 005, 006, and 130? I've seen pictures of them, but I just can't find what they're called. An answer would be much appreciated.
I'm trying to resist my inner Japanophile I once killed off along with my self esteem from coming back so bad right now. Don't make me feel like a Japanophile Sankaku, being a Japanophile is wrong.;_;
Trying my hardest...so hard not to find this incredibly beautiful...;_;
It's really nice,i like big cities but rural areas are the most beautiful.
This is by far my favorite type of Sankaku gallery. God I'm such a pathetic detestable Japanophile degenerate.
very nice some of the those places remind me of when I was living in the Phillipines as a kid (airforce brat) shame about what happened after I left (clark af base bury by volcano ash)
I recognise #49 - Takachiho Gorge, near Miyazaki
Nearly rowed straight into that damned waterfall.
How I loved this gallery, especially No.10 (brings back memories)
The cherry blossom trees blooming in the pic there are just great ! Just by looking at these pictures gives me the feeling of pure satisfaction. :3
Beautiful! If I'm ever lucky enough to see Japan, I'm taking a few side trips out of the big cities!
#99 and #101 are from Shukugawa Park in Nishinomiya, featured in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
damn Japan, you so fine.
