$80 Strike Witches Game Would Barely Pass Muster at $10

Disappointment barely describes the icy response facing the latest gameplay footage of the upcoming Strike Witches shoot ’em up for the Xbox 360 – some say it would barely pass muster as a freeware doujin game, let alone an $80 release.
Incredulous Strike Witches fans are still wondering if the entire game is actually intended as a perverse extra to the Yoshika Nendoroid included with the $100+ edition, but sadly this seems unlikely.

The witches sprites are still too big, if it wasn't for the magical barrier ability this would seem imposible to dodge bullets if it ever reached anywhere near touhou easy difficulty.
It looks like it could be fun, but its not worth $80, an indie game as downlaodable content at most.
Wow first of all it's not sprites you retard, second touhou is a whole different type of game where there's about 50x more bullets on screen.
Also if you even watched the whole video you should've noticed that only the player in front of the formation can be hit and that the hitbox isn't that large at all compared to shooters like this.
Bitch, bitch, bitch...
For a licensed game, it looks good. It's no top-end game by any means, but I didn't see a hint of slowdown in the gameplay and the graphics are perfectly serviceable for what it is. Should it get released in NA, I can see myself dropping $50-$60 for it if it's got a decent amount of levels and a good challenge curve.
It's not quite a danmaku, but it looks like it could be a fun shooter.
I get the feeling they had originally planed this to be a PSP game then the MS suits came in with a brief case of cash and suddenly its a 360 only game. Its the only reason I can think of for what looks like a fun little psp title only the 360
But for $80 well it'd need to be Ace Combat: Witches for that price
Looks like work from a DIY construction kit thrown together. It's not "Bad" but it's something most anybody could do in this day and age. Certainly obsessive fans with reasonable computer skills.
I bet the gaming magazines are going to eat it alive and say "Why don't they just add a bullshit dating sim and some Hentai scenes and it'd fit in it's proper slot of quality and gameplay."
I won't say "Plagiarism" because a "shooting game" is a "Limited Game"
On that note, and the other ones, here's a pic you guys will love and I'm really surprised it's not in the 'chan...

Of Nick Simmons, a real cruel pic, but hey...
Like I said, unlike Mark Bode he can't just hack out KISS comics or play in da band. Da Bode left a bunch of comics that were famous, but no major movie/book deals yet...no one with their hands in the cookie jar. Mark on the other hand couldn't 'cause it's a big corporation and they've got the best artists and musicians tearfully begging to join. A sad thing on life is that many great artists (and other achiever's) kids don't have "The Muse" or "The stuff" and so often suffer in their father's shadow. And I don't think he's hurt Bleach with it, intense tribute or real plagarism, though IMO if he should be punished for anything it's liking Bleach...
Shooting games are a genre, how does retracing art have anything to do with that.
horrible, just horrible!
even if the xbox isn't popular in japan and they are really desperate to play the game they could just buy a used xbox for like 5 bucks and buy the game... totaling to about 85 bucks and then once they are done with it they have an 80 buck paperweight(xbox) and a 5 buck game
Freeware games in Japan look this good? Wow their full games must have amazing graphics and sound. O_o
I realize it is not the best game and is a rip off for 80 dollars but saying it would hardly be worth playing as freeware? That is really seems like just silly piling on for coolness sake.
I think the upcoming PS2 game this month might be better than this one(I heard it's gonna be an action game, but I don't if it will be a shoot-em-up)
This is really disappointing.
The game needs more danmaku and then maybe it'd be an okay game. Else it's like Touhou in easy mode...well not even that.
Seriously, what's with the identical gun-hold pose portraits? That's sorta worse than Nishimata Aoi's case..
its more like a ripoff of macross games, and if you compare it with the ps1 title "macross: do you remember love" there isnt muvh defferernce(macross even have better animation).
I watched the video.... It doesn't look much different than Otomedius G to me.
I don't get it, so is the gameplay too easy or what? Because it looks like a pretty standard non-Touhou shooter to me...
looks kind of fun. very expensive, though :V
I wouldn't pay $80 for it but it doesn't look that bad. Games in general have been terrible since the transition to 3D about 10 years ago, so a game in a style like this appeals to me.
The anime will suffice. Games made from anime tend to fail. So we can just look forward to the next installment of the series.
Well who's seriously surprised here? It's about Strike witches, some weird crapped up moe anime created for the sake of money, of course anything related to it will be hastily made and sold for lots.
Okay little boys, go back to playing Halo.
This is an actual commercial game? Might as well Photoshop the pants off the Space Harrier guy and hack the new graphic into the MAME ROM.
The game looks pretty well made. It'll be a fun little shoot-em-up...
BUT... yeh, $80...
Alot of hatred against shmups i see.. but this game seems overall pretty lackluster.
They should have licensed it out to MOSS or CAVE someone who actually knows the genre.
Oh and not many people here seem to know that the Xbox 360 is infact the Otaku console this generation.
all more "indie" games appear on the 360.
Gulti did the development, apparently (not Cyber Front). I didn't really think anything special about that company when they pushed out "Mamoru-Kun" along with G.Rev. They kind of failed hard though with "0-Day Attack on Earth", and it looks like they're running the risk of failing on this one as well.
You know guys alot of bullets does not mean that the game is hard... Its the pattern difficulty that makes the games hard
I could fill up the screen with bullets that barely let you move or alittle bullets moving in confusing patterns
the latter one would be alot harder.
Guess this not really the right place to discuss stg's
VERY poor copy of Otomedius
i played a strike witches doujin game which was EXACTLY like this except it was a vertical shooter, where you have 3 of the girls and they have their own unique shots and powers and shit.
looks look someone either got robbed of their ideas or that doujin group made it big and turned their game into a commercial production.
too bad this shit is overpriced as hell.

Ok, not only is this a side scroller and that's bad enough considering this is 2010 and the strike witches universe has so much more to offer. but it would have to pull off something fucking awe inspiring to warrant that kind of price tag and rival current next gen with gameplay alone and polish that comes from somthing other than visuals that it clearly lacks maybe some kind insane mini games and great animated sequences as well as flashy menus and prsentation but I doubt it looking at such production values...
"current next gen gameplay" if that means running around and doing button prompts like in the laughably avarage godofwar3 I hope you're joking.
You don't know shit about shmups and what they play like.
please, oh god, please, let no otaku buy this game!
Hey, it's not the fault of otakus if they have more money to burn than you. LOL
I have to say though, this looks pretty fun but yeah I would spend $15 on this maximum.
$80? That defies all rationality. This P.O.S. SCREAMS "budget title!" Even someone like me who knows nothing about Strike Witches can see that they royally fucked up!
starfox 64 is WAYYY BETTER than this >_>
the original Starfox on the SNES is better than this, even with all its polygonish glory and no crosshire in in outside veiw mode.
I'll still buy it. :3
All for Sanya.
I dunno...It may not seem like much but it actually still looks pretty fun. I'd still buy it :D
Or maybe i just like STGs *very touhou-esque gives it a +*!
They better not buy this game at 80$ . The game should be boycotted until it is brought down to about 30$ because not enough effort was put into it to even consider that price.
To be fair, it IS at the same level as a good indie game terms of quality (not that there's anything wrong with that), but the paycheck for the big-name voice actors HAS to come from somewhere.
Thats what greed does to popular franchises >.>
It's just an 80s scrolling arcade shooter with expensive licensed graphics.
I played that game more than 20 years ago for a quarter a go. Only my game had different graphics.
Jesus, suckers are born every minute obviously.
I like the series a lot, but anime, or Hollywood epic, the fact anyone actually expects anything serious from an obvious marketing tool is hilarious.

Voice actors don't get paid a lot.
Jesus, it sounds like they are using Airsoft guns.
If it would be like those 3D flight simulators and where you would look at the girls from behind - that would be a great game - with pantsu shots and clothing malfunctions...
What's the point to have a 3D game that you play like a 2D one...for 80 bugs
And they should put much more effort on the graphic of the girls.
While it doesn't seem worth $80, it doesn't seem nearly as bad as people seem to keep making out to be either.
Sure the graphics seem outdated and the gameplay isn't anything ground-breaking, but fans of the series might enjoy it.
If it was y'know, 10% to 20% of the actual price, then I'd probably get it. If I had a 360 that is.
It's on the 360...that's the only reason it's getting grief. For some people, a Japanese IP must be released on Japanese consoles. It's virtual sacrilege.
If it was released on Sony, at worst it wouldn't get a mention.
they ripped touhou
No, they ripped R-Type, its almost exactly the same, minus the good (for its time) art and gameplay that rapes you to fuck and leaves you bleeding on the road
Ahh, how much we loved you R-Type...
No, they ripped DeathSmiles. No, they ripped Gradius. No, they ripped Trouble Witches. No, they ripped Darius. No, they ripped Border Down. No, they ripped Omega Five. No, they ripped Metal Black.
Or maybe this game did not rip off anything; it just belongs to the same genre.
Well said.
