Good thing my preferences for celery and quite unfair.

They probably water all of their crops with sewage water anyways, so I don't see how this changes anything.

Why in their stupid minds couldnt they just use normal clean water to do this? Oh wait its china there is no clean water.

Usually you'd have to throw manure on the land and fertilize it so the crops can grow, not throw the crops in manure(and all the other things you can find in sewage water)

Seriously, you can't buy anything there. The food's filled with sewage and their products fail exponentially and are filled with toxic chemicals. Anything you buy would kill you.

This is what you get when practice Capitalism with no harsh regulations.

It's not like it's going to stop China from surpassing Japan economically in literally 1-3 years. I highly doubt that these practices are officially endorsed by the Chinese government. It's just that China is still industrializing, and like industrializing nations, it tends to have quite a few negative externalities.

Look up Europe and the US back in the 1800's, when they were still industrializing. China seems like heaven compared to then.

Back to why China has all this shitty lead paint, sewage veggies, and semi-edible milk: China is still rapant with corruption in the government, and has yet to weed it out. It will take some time, but China will eventually crack down on all the corruption; after all,increasing the quality of their products will ultimately benefit them.

To be honest, China looks a lot like Japan did in the 1970's, except with their ENORMOUS population, they have much more potential.

So, what else is new about China's food products? ;)

BTW, Arte, will you be reporting on any of the usual mainland Chinese antics during the chaotic World Expo opening in Shanghai? Like treating the drinking fountains there as garbage bins?

Haven't bothered to read all comments, but no one thinks to call bullsh*t? They put a conspicuous black bag in a pond and now it's a sewage pond? The water's clear. Let's place a garbage can there to make it more convincing.

And if they were interested in getting more money they wouldn't weigh it down before they shipped it to your country. Just make sure you don't have sewage ponds in your backyard.

These are truly atrocious... though it's curious how they never make the news. The best English reference I've found so far to ditch oil has been about using it as fuel, not cooking oil. Sankaku Complex can't be the only English site that gets info from Chinese sites...
