Witnesses report otaku K-ON! fans at one Akihabara store were so desperate to get their hands on limited supplies of a Yui figure that they resorted to fisticuffs and had to be broken up by security.
The figure in question was Alter’s PVC rendition of Yui Hirasawa (now sold out everywhere it seems).
A witness report:
A shop assistant went to put some stock out on the shelves, and there was a sudden onslaught of K-ON! otaku who were waiting for it. The stock disappeared in an instant, and a couple were running around screaming:
“GAHHHHHHH! That one’s mine!”
“Get lost, I’ll beat you down!”
“WAAAAAAH”
Pretty amazing. The guys who were arguing ran off down the stairs to the second floor at the back and started brawling.
A security guard came pretty quickly and sorted them out.
Sadly no one thought to video the event, but in any case such happenings are all too likely.

That is a very well designed piece.
Proportionate and she's depicted ubber adorable.
They could of avoided the unruly collateral consequences by simply having a lottery with the winners having to post their full payment to the store and having the piece posted back.
With a minimum of security, a winners list could of been posted in the store for anyone who may have missed out on the actual drawing of winning tickets.
No reason to aggravate the base instincts of human nature any more than neccesary, unless someone actually intended to document the whole affair with video.

With otaku going as far as killing family members for taking away their otaku hobby aspects, it wouldn't be surprising that there could well be otaku stalking other otaku just because someone got a coveted piece and others are feeling slighted for not being in the right place at the right time.
We'll only have to wait and see, sooner or later Artefact will find it in the news.

That's nothing. Someone got shot at the PS3's NA launch. As a fairly new PS3 owner myself (5 months) II think it's safe to say the PS3 (or anything) isn't worth getting shot over or waiting in line for.
