A man has been convicted of rape, incest and murder after it emerged he kept his daughter as a sex slave for 15 years and had four children by her, three of which died.
The 49-year-old Missouri man lived in a camper van with his wife and daughter.
He is said to have used his daughter as a sex slave for 15 years, starting at age 5 and continuing until his arrest, fathering four children with her.
The daughter told the court one child died in a fall, another fell ill but was refused medical attention by her father and eventually died, and yet another died during delivery. Of the four children he sired by her, only one was to survive, currently aged 5.
The bodies were left in containers on a property occupied by other members of his family. When they left, new tenants discovered the corpses and alerted police, who soon discovered the sordid truth.
The father said his daughter wanted sex, and when asked why he thought so told police “By the way she acts. She would rub my shoulder or my back, and I could just tell.”
His daughter, now 20, is adamant this is not the case: “I did not want to be my father’s sex slave,” she told the court.
Police reported discovering a letter from the father to his daughter in a search of his cell, starting “To my feonsay, I love you a hole bunch,” and going on to mention her having his child.
The defence disputed all the charges, suggesting his daughter was responsible for the accidental death of one baby and that she was not his biological offspring. He did however admit to having sex with her and delivering her babies.
The jury’s verdict was guilty on all counts, convicting him of felony murder, statutory rape, child endangerment and multiple charges of incest and abandonment of a corpse.
The jury also recommended maximum sentences on all counts, ranging from 30 years to life. Sentencing is due later in the year.
The victim’s mother was said to have been jealous of her husband’s incestuous relationship with his daughter, and to have assisted with the delivery of his children. She faces two charges of child endangerment.
