Top 10 Female Characters of May Newtype – Nagato On Top

nagato_yuki_megami_magazine_issue_119__april_2010

The new May issue of Newtype gives a none-too surprising Top 10 Female Characters with fan favorites Nagato, C.C., and Haruhi topping the charts.

It should be fairly self-explanatory, but the colored squares with arrows besides the characters represent the character’s ranking change; green horizontals mean no change from last month, blue downward arrows represent a lower spot.

Squint to see the # inside the squares that gives last month’s position for that character (click to enlarge the image).

Newtype Top 10 Female Characters – May 2010

1. Yuki Nagato (Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu)

2. C.C. (Code Geass)

3. Suzumiya Haruhi (Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu)

4. Kobato Hanato (Kobato)

5. Sheryl Nome (Macross Frontier)

6. Misaka Mikoto (To Aru Kagaku no Railgun)

7. Lacus Clyne (Gundam Seed)

8. Saber (Fate/stay night UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS)

9. Fate Testarossa (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 1st)

10. Rei Ayanami (Evangelion 2.0)

Nagato, C.C., and Haruhi are basically givens for these sort of lists, and the placement of 2 Haruhi girls in the top 3 is partly due to this year’s excellent Haruhi movie.

Kobato Hanato, the moesome titular character of the idyllic CLAMP series Kobato, is perhaps the least obvious choice on the list to appear at such a high spot as #4 given her show’s tranquil and mostly action-less structure, but she is still a CLAMP character after all, so perhaps it is not so surprising.

Incidentally, her ranking means 2 of the top 4 spots are held by CLAMP designed characters, since Code Geass’ character designs (but not mecha designs) were made by the famed female manga quartet.

The rest of the list needs little commentary – Gundam Seed’s Lacus’ seat on the Top 10 is basically a permanent fixture of the magazine, and Rei Ayanami and Saber both managed to climb back into the rankings after finishing outside the list last month.
