The new May issue of Newtype gives a none-too surprising Top 10 Female Characters with fan favorites Nagato, C.C., and Haruhi topping the charts.
It should be fairly self-explanatory, but the colored squares with arrows besides the characters represent the character’s ranking change; green horizontals mean no change from last month, blue downward arrows represent a lower spot.

Nagato, C.C., and Haruhi are basically givens for these sort of lists, and the placement of 2 Haruhi girls in the top 3 is partly due to this year’s excellent Haruhi movie.
Kobato Hanato, the moesome titular character of the idyllic CLAMP series Kobato, is perhaps the least obvious choice on the list to appear at such a high spot as #4 given her show’s tranquil and mostly action-less structure, but she is still a CLAMP character after all, so perhaps it is not so surprising.
Incidentally, her ranking means 2 of the top 4 spots are held by CLAMP designed characters, since Code Geass’ character designs (but not mecha designs) were made by the famed female manga quartet.
The rest of the list needs little commentary – Gundam Seed’s Lacus’ seat on the Top 10 is basically a permanent fixture of the magazine, and Rei Ayanami and Saber both managed to climb back into the rankings after finishing outside the list last month.

Aside from Lacus and Kobato all this is is a list of Tsundere characters, and near emotionless characters why is such a boring list the top ten when there are thousands of better characters out there.

Lacus still popular?, I never would have guessed, more so because I don't see any of the Gundam 00 girls in the list, who I thought had a better chance than old Lacus.

Besides cow-tits Sumeragi who actually did some nice plannings here and there as well as red head Trinity girl who is insanely awesome, the rest isn't even worth mentioning, especially that sucker pink-haired gal who is a poor clone of Lacus herself. Heh, actually I had Miss China-boobs in mind, I know I only watched the first season to the end just because of her. And Feldt Grace too, but being a minor character and all I wasn't expecting anything. I just thought the G00ndam girls had a better chance since they are still fresh in the memory of viewers.
Personally, I like Lacus better than any of the G00ndam gals.

I agree with the list as these are fan-favorite characters, though I personally don't really fancy some of the characters.
I mean, in my opinion, Kallen and Rin would have been apart of the list as well. Again, don't quite like the serious girls.

100% Agree, but this is probably because something i noticed with a lot of rankings dominated by Japanese anime fans and otaku, who tend to go for the cute type over every other anime stereotype like Tsundere which is baffling to me. Like for example Yui beating Mio, Saber beating Rin. Meh i say Tsundere > stupidly bashfully cute always, because nothing is cuter than a bitch with inner stubbornly hidden cuteness.
Right on! I prefer for my anime to be the exact opposite of my real life. In rl, I'd rather have a nice, cute chick; if I ever met a tsundere, I'd probably be like "dammit b****, stfu!" However, for anime, I like my characters tsundere; anime just makes them so darn adorable. Basically, what I'm saying is...
