The latest sales figures for the first quarter of 2010 show the PS3 rising to total ascendancy over the Japanese gaming market.
The new games of 2010 are almost totally dominated by the PS3:
1. Yakuza 4 – 474,000 PS3
2. North Star Warriors – 397,000 PS3
3. Biohazard 5: AE – 234,475 PS3
4. End of Eternity – 175,934 PS3
5. Star Ocean 4 – 138,800 PS3
6. Biohazard DC – 121,592 Wii
7. Ar Tonelico 3 – 98,400 PS3
8. Nobunaga: Tendou – 69,010 PS3
9. God of War III – 55,000 PS3
10. BF: Bad Company 2 – 42,180 PS3
Several much older Wii titles feature in the overall 2010 sales rankings (as opposed to the one presented here, for new releases only), but this only serves to highlight what even Nintendo admits as a severe problem – the increasing lack of quality titles for the Wii save a few first-party Nintendo megahits which seem only to underscore the console’s reputation for “casual” titles.
The miserable fate of the Xbox 360 in Japan of course by now hardly warrants mention.
Incidentally, the list seems surprisingly manly, by Japanese standards… Yakuza 4 in particular features plenty of trashy hostess action alongside the usual (tame by GTA standards) criminal action – the infamous ping-pong minigame deserves introduction:

Really, well it's a shame that Japan is the smallest major demographic. The 360 continues to outsell the PS3 in America, the largest demographic, and that doesn't seem to be letting up at all. Sure GoW3 pushed PS3 more than 360 for a week or two, but wait until Halo reach, Alan Wake or Crackdown 2 or Conviction. The 360 will be in second place this generation, and of that I can assure you.
You know what they say about Sony fanboys, they don't like their console, they just REALLY hate yours.
And all nostalgia aside, this is easily the best generation of games. All consoles are doing very well and we're in a good place.

Japanese have always loved sony, you can't miss the fanboyism. It's sad because no matter how bad or behind sony is, japan always bends over for them.

Now, if only I had a reason to use my PS3 more often. I'm extremely disappointed in the domestic selection of games around here...Disgaea 3 and Cross Edge are pretty much the only games on the PS3 worth caring about for me, unless I'm missing some other fringe titles I'd be interested in.
I don't even think the issue would be solved by imports unless the PS3 has a wealth of import visual novels and shmups to keep me interested. I suppose I could pick up Ar Tonelico 3, but it'd be a bitch to play. I keep hoping for an English release.
So what PS3 games are out there that would satisfy a RPG/anime/shooter fan such as myself?

WTH?, I more or less expected the other titles to reach such numbers, but God of War and Battlefield??? Who would have guessed the Japanese gamers still had taste for anything other than JRPGs, Dating Simulators and Beat'em Ups.
Also, I don't think the PS3 has much of a competition in Japan, but world sales should be what determines if this happens to be the year of the PS3 or the X360.
And The line up of games for this year looks amazing, so many good games released in the first quarter alone.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the PS3 outsells the 360 by ~50,000 units a week. Europe? The PS3 is outselling the 360 by ~40,000 units a week.
Whatever global lead the 360 has is slip-slidin' away faster than the 360's prospects as a longer term console like it was originally billed as.

I don't think this was actually ment to bash the 360, we all know the 360 fails in Japan. I believe this was just showing which console had the most sales period in Japan. Also this could say hey the chances of new rpg awesomness and random game from japan here will probably be on the ps3 rather than other consoles. So if you like Japanese type things, I'm assuming that you do, since you are reading this on Sanakuku Complex. Then buy a PS3. If you don't like JRPG's or foreign games and just like stuff IN AMERICA, buy a 360.

It's not even worth talking about the Xbox 360 in Japan any longer. The focus of the article was really on the PS3 vs Wii.
No I think he's not, look at the numbers... 50k units against 3k, "bashing" is a kind word here. XBOX 360 has it's ups and downs but got to admit it has way more downs comparing it with ps3 and wii.

The purpose of this may be to open the eyes of the always blinded retards of Microsoft, they want to sell crap at high prices and then stop all development or update of the crap in mention. Maybe if the had actually tried and kept it's system updated it wouldn't be THIS bad or maybe they shouldn't had dared to step into the gaming territory in the first place (I'd love to see an Apple console though).

It actually was much more capable then the PS1 as it had a 66MHz PPC603 but the console was $599 which was much more expensive then competing consoles.
I don't think Apple can really compete in the console market unless as it's just too cut throat.
If they do try to enter it again it'll likely be based off the iphone/ipad platform since the arm chipsets are so cheap.
It'll probably be download only or if they're smart use SD cards as well.

You are oblivious. The cost of add-ons like that stupid wifi add on bring the cost $100 higher. Add onto that the cost of playing on live and replacing your hdd when you inevitably run out of space with an overpriced hdd. Ps3 lost ability to do linux which is fairly useless on a game console. Sure it lost backward compatibility too, but if you're that starved for old games, pick up a cheap ps2(they cost almost nothing). We don't hate them as the "cool" thing to do. We hate them because they could care less about quality and have a knack for fooling retards like you into thinking you're paying less money when you buy a dvd-based console with no built in wifi(ps3 has :)). Of course ps3 would often stick to 720p games instead of upscaling to 1080 like the 360, but shouldn't that be more on the game developers? Lastly, who wants to deal with that paperweight and its brick of a power supply.
