Observant otaku were surprised to find this full page layout (a definite rarity for anime) advertising the upcoming Spring TV series Angel Beats! in the March 29th edition of Yomiuri Shimbun, the globe’s biggest newspaper by circulation.
The text at the bottom left of Key illustrator Na-Ga‘s beautiful art roughly reads :
I will make you remember that your life is a wonderful thing…
Right here, there is something (waiting).
The rest of the text merely gives the show release date as April (the evening of April 2 at 02:00AM, to be exact) and the official website.
Many 2ch otaku, busy marveling at the presence of such an extravagant ad for an otaku oriented late-night anime in the Yomiuri, were quick to repeat the observation made many times thus far concerning the similarity of series’ heroine, Yuri, to a certain other female lead famous among otaku…
To help illustrate the point, one otaku helpfully produced this colorized version, but using the color scheme of tsundere goddess Haruhi Suzumiya‘s very own North High seifuku, plus yellow for the headband:
It almost looks good enough to be introduced as Haruhi drawn by Na-ga!
plagio Y_Y solo eso ! (i don’t know how to say it on english 😡
What does “the globe’s biggest newspaper by circulation” mean?
I was referring to the number of newspaper printed, sold, i.e., “circulated”.
This page is old, but should give you the basic idea: http://www.wan-press.org/article2825.html
Wow, Japan loves its shimbun.
I don’t know, she doesn’t look anything like Haruhi to me in the animation.
About the text in the right corner – a more accurate translation (at least for me) would be:
“Something that can make you remember life is a wonderful thing is right here”
Instead of this anime, why they don’t animate something at least based on “Little Busters”? I think there’s enough fanbase to make cash from it.
Sorry if you disliked my translation. ^^
Yours does sound actually better; I simply have an innate bias for ‘literal’ translation work, and it comes out odd-sounding at times.
As for Little Busters, the long-time rumour is that would go to KyoAni.
With such a significant fanbase, as you mentioned, it would seem more appropriate to have a series based on it produced in the normal fashion, rather than the somewhat experimental method they’ve taken with Angel Beats!.
Actually, your translation was a bit off because it isn’t “I” (the speaker) that want to make the reader realise the fact that life is wonderful, it’s “something that is here” is making the reader realise that life is wonderful. If there is a full stop at the end of the 2nd line, your translation would have been correct.
No problem, dude. I know Japanese is sometimes (if not manytimes) a pain in the ass to translate accurately, even for people with good knowledge.
Just don’t make her as bitchy as Haruhi, that’ll make her (Yuri) getting my vote and approval..
