Tokyo International Anime Festival 2010 – Day One

The Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010 began at the Tokyo Big Sight yesterday, starting off with 2 “Business” days before opening to the general public; even so, a plethora of interesting products have already emerged.
TAF 2010, the same event whose annual animation award winners were reported here some weeks ago, is a 4-day long event; Day 1 did not provide any particularly noteworthy announcement or reveal, but that is something to be expected from this sort of event – those unfamiliar with Japanese style conventions would get a more accurate concept of them by imagining something like a huge dealer’s hall.
Individual companies or franchises receive set up their booths to be as attention grabbing as possible, such as with the impressively sized Unicorn Gundam (Destroy Mode) visible above.

This one above is a timeline of Gunpla’s (Gundam plastic models) long history.
Aniplex’s booth had this trumpet on display, modeled after Rio’s own trumpet in Sora no Woto.
Another almost bizarre prop was this alarm clock, a real life model of the clock Yuno uses to wake up at the beginning of most every Hidamari Sketch episode.
Yunocchi’s stuffed bear would’ve made a good partner to her clock, but was nowhere to be found, sadly enough…

The TAF is not especially oriented towards figures, but there naturally are plenty of the plastic goddesses for attendees to gawk at, even if most have been seen before:

Good Smile Company’s prototype Rin figure is another stunning piece – just look at that hair!

This Nadeko prototype, also from GSC, has a good amount of potential, but it seems hard to judge this one without its paintjob.
Again, an appreciated close up of some of the important bits.
Hopefully, the contrast between Nadeko’s thighs and the sukumizu’s blue color, combined with suggestive enough crease-lines, will make this end of Nadeko stand out in the complete version.

The original illustration incidentally comes from Tomsooya, one of the best Touhou artists around, who was featured in a previous post some time ago.

That destroy mode gundam is awesome. I think the next gundam anime should definitely have the gundams humanoid-sized. So their more like powered suits then mobile mecha suits. That would be pretty cool new spin on things and how the meisters fight in wars and such.
