Hokuto Musou Hits Hard – 500,000 Copies Shipped

Hokuto Musou (“North Star Warriors”), the latest in Koei’s famed Musou/Dynasty Warriors brawler series and the first to feature Fist of the North Star, has proved a great hit in Japan with 500,000 units shipped to retailers.
Plenty of bloody gameplay videos have emerged for those curious about Kenshiro’s latest antics, and just how successful Mamiya’s corset is in countering jiggle.
Reportedly the Xbox 360 version accounted for some 10% of the copies shipped so far, hardly a surprise – the Xbox 360 version is presumably more intended for the eventual overseas release – it is confirmed as being due in Europe in the summer.
Bought reviews have generally been positive (Famitsu gave it 32/40), whilst user reviews have been mixed but mostly positive.
Some play reports from gamers already stuck well into the game may be of interest – blood and gratuitous service are well in evidence through Kenshiro’s bloody attacks and Mamiya’s tight overly thong and bodice, but the graphics are none too spectacular and of course the gameplay does not deviate from the established Musou formula in any great respect.

Despite the already absurdity of holding a steel beam and a ton of concrete, he drags it seamlessly THROUGH fencing without doing damage? Uh, "What is this Corrision Detectron?" Now, that's been a long term nightmare for game designers, but I thought the PS3 just had enough power it could be the norm, not the exception, at least as far as the static environment goes...
Don't get me wrong. I like the looks of this game, and will probably buy it later (if it's avail. on this market) The original movie was like my FAVORITE anime along with VHD years back! But, it's like my "No game under a year old" maxim; Circus Maximus at $60 -uh.... Circus Maximus at $5 -Awesome!!!
They are too lazy to code any. Same with clipping on clothing - lately it seems developers can't even be bothered to design pre-animated costumes which don't poke through every other layer.
It's fast getting to the point where the major obstacle to graphical quality on characters is the fact that their clothes don't fit together.
That's really sad...
And consider how earlier games like "Tomb Raider", "Final Fantasy" had to really work out "Revolutionary" leaps to get anything to work, much less look good.
For instance, some of the Final Fantasy ones had designes deliberately chosen to be difficult for the 3D animators to challenge them, like Lulu's combination of Mog fur and dress made of belts. But, they did a very good job, both for the 3D pre-rendered scenes and the sprite characters. Let's also note that Laura Croft's backpack was added because the Polygons fit wrong on her back, but just adding a few more would end up killing it's run-ability on 25% of the computers in the consumer base it was being sold to...
Let's also not forget that "Doom" was a game that even the IBM PC's designers thought would not be possible until the 786 days (Pentium 3 era) yet it ran on a 386/486 engine.
Still, there are far worse "Collision Detection" failures. Look up on YouTube, in the all time worst games there's this "Trucker" game where you can drive through mountains and gas stations with no blow up or tilt... And it was made 3 years (at least) after "Interstate 76" that did incredibly well simulating how painful it is to drive even souped up vehicles off road...
This is THE only thing good without loli.
It's somewhat refreshing that a game (as opposed to non-game/ random sudoku or "braining" app) with nary a gay character or "love in the battlefield" bullshit actually achieves some level of success over at Japan, what with their increasingly shittier tastes and irrelevant output...
If there's two things I've come to expect from Koei's games are subpar graphics and simplistic gameplay.

I wonder if the gameplay is simliar to God Hand. Wish I knew if this would be released on the US, but the chances of that seems slim. :\
I would assume the gameplay is similar to Dynasty warriors: Two attack buttons(close combat and long distance), one jump button, one special attack button. (Also, block button and possibly an aiming button). Basically you run around beating the crap out of opponents - named opponents are tougher and tend to help you level more aswell as drop upgrade items. Upgrade items on character, get new moves(varies how from game to game) and level up to get stronger.
Hitting is basically a question of combos - e g CC button then LD for one attack, or rush then CC then CC then LD for another. It's pretty easy to get used to.
Downers with the game is that the AI tends to be crap, harder difficulty usually means long range attack spam by enemies and tougher enemies.
That said, with a solid storyline musou games tend to be pretty fun to play with a friend.
No it's similar to Dynasty Warriors, hence the Musou in the title.

I wanted to play this game, but no Kamiya Akira as Kenshiro just ruins it for me... Never liked Dynasty Warriors gameplay anyways.
I'm also surprised when he got replaced. but I got totally pumped when I know that Tomokazu Seki is the one replacing him.
