If you want the commercial version of this, get yourself a DVD where the script was translated from Japanese to Chinese, and then from Chinese to English.

Apparently, the Chinese translators don't actually *listen* to the DVD, they just translate the script text. This results in peoples' names being rendered as a Chinese pronunciation of the kanji. Other errors are also added.

It's "somebody set us up the bomb"-type syntax.

I don't know if anybody noticed it yet but picture 12 is not a typo. This specific sub was created by Chihiro-fansub to test for new translators. This is actually a question posted for the who-be translator. Those who answered it right were considered for the job. The text was not actually implemented in the final product. :/

Speaking of failures, how about Japanese anime that try to use/speak English?

I appreciate the effort that people make in producing fansubs, as it is the only way I can enjoy access to anime. The occasional error, awkward language, or silliness is part of the process, and accepted since this is a voluntary and unpaid act of generosity.

In some cases it gets really horrendous. The worst in my opinion are translations of Chinese versions of Japanese anime to English (presumably by Chinese). There were some really awful episodes of 'Initial D' and others I don't recall offhand. Most recent for me is a truly horrendous sub for the live-action movie 'Sundome'. It's "Thanks a lot dude for the effort, but come on, this hurts".

Since you brought up the Pico anime, I think you forgot something:

In "Boku no Pico" (the first OVA), the old man introduces Pico as his grandSON (according to the fansub). If that's what the original writer meant, Mokkun's reaction to Pico's true sex wouldn't make sense.

Like Elemental Hunters? I don't know if they are making fun of the characters in the first episode(did'nt watch it after the 1st) but that's the only shonen anime involves children(which also the protagonist) that talk obscene sub language

there is fansub in tales of eternia that in the final episode the translator gets boring and star adding notes about how boring is the anime the best one is when he puts "hit that motherfucker with your banjo dude"

Well, since they're FAN subs done for FREE, you can't really fault anything done in poor quality. When PROFESSIONAL subs that require you to part with hard-earned cash stink even worse... yes I'm looking at you ODEX fuckers.
