Mio has a very generic design anyway, i've seen lots of animes and mangas with characters who look just like her, and even on real live her hairstyle is quite common.

But yeah... not the first time an eroge has done a one-off of a popular series. This time it's just drawn by a popular artist.

So...it's not okay for fictional characters to look similar? Even though it happens all the time in real life?

i think this is a pretty far stretch to be calling plagiarism. under such scrutiny you could even go so far as to say every girl character with twin-tails and dark hair is the same, which is a lot.

I've said it's been quite proven (multiple lawsuits) that it's entirely possible for two people working apart to come up with the same idea, especially along narrow fields of work.

Science fiction -> Time Machines-> Wells's work derivative...

Fantasy -> Heroic Fantasy -> REH derivative...

Horror -> Supernatural Horror -> Lovecraft Tribute...

Each step becomes more and more likely to be the "Same" idea, including things the author who isn't yet published when the first one is is truly shocked that are included, like characters with almost the same description and even name. But, time and again, it's been proven that simply put he came up with the same idea.

And what do we have here...?
"Moe anime/manga" in a literally "Glutted" genre. There's an English translated "How to Draw Manga" that features on Moe girls, "Girl's Life" or something...full of all the major stereotypes.

To me, it's all the same stuff with changing backgrounds, this "Moe" genre. I'm not complaining (drool...) but I call things for what they are.

The purpose is to sell Manga/Anime that show pretty young girls frolicking and interacting with a chiefly male audience. The characters change hair color, personalities, clothing, but there obviously are a bunch of "Rules" for how the groups are set up, interact with others, rivalries, plot elements and so forth. The "Background" changes, they can be most stereotypically "Schoolgirls" or something as wild and weird as "Strike Witches" where in between the weird fetish play, they become "Schoolgirls" again...

Uh, no. Their heads aren't even shaped the same. Then there's the difference in breast size. While both are lovey, Mio Akiyama has the better ass. Regardless of this I would fuck Mio Sugiyama before Mio Akiyama. Finally, Mio's Akiyama's feet look better though we all know why that is. ;)

Lets see, 90% of all Tonys work has black hair.
More of them have longer hair then short.
The eyes, nose and mouth are almost the same on all of his characters.
The one is young so she has a smaller face.
If anything what stands out the most is the small breast since most of his characters are normal to well endowed.
If anything Mio is a Tony character with the corner of the eye a little higher on the outside and less surface area on the lower lid.

Seriously, the whole Simmions thing was one thing but come on 2ch.

If you look closely at alot of art works, they look "similiar" to something else. When something has been around as long as it has, its eventually going to start repeating itself. That's life both on and off the net.

Tony didnt do a good job here, doesn't look like the character at all, Mio Akiyama looks like.... a proper looking Nico Robin and Mio Sugiyama is a stock anime girl

This is moot... In the past years, there had been dozens of Anime, manga & game characters that look similar...

Take Haruka Suzumiya of Kiminozo who looks like teen copy of Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura..

Guys, her name is only off by one stroke and half a kanji. It's a generic design, but apparently a take on Akiyama Mio. The thing is that's almost never plagiarism in Japan - it's doujin. Even famous mainstream artists draw other artists' characters, sometimes erotically. Nothing wrong with that - it'd be plagiarism if he traced the cels or something.

Where are they same?
Hair style? - No (I could said one is twintail Mio and another is long hair Mio)
Body? - No (One is illegal in Australia another is not)
Personality? - No (One is very shy and another one is can start ero thing with her brother)

This is all too silly. K-on and Tony Taka's designs are pretty generic, of course they would look similar. And quite honestly, I find more similarity between Mio and Yomi from Ga-Rei, but again, those designs are pretty much taken out of a template for "traditional" looking characters. It-s pretty pointless.

Unlike Akiyama, Sugimiya is a pettan loli and doesn't really has a complete hime cut to begin with. Why don't they just talk about the similarities between Akiyama and Sakamoto (Strike Witches) instead?

I'm not a fan of Tony but yea, those characters are not copied. Tony has been drawing that same character for years even before the K-ON popularity(because all of his characters look alike anyways). Not to mention those hairstyles are not that unique, either. 2ch, I'm disappoint. If anything, Tony plagiarizes his own art.
