The third BD edition of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun boasts some incredibly subtle and in some cases quite inexplicable changes from the TV broadcast version.

Spotting them is hard enough, but can anyone explain them all?

It seems like they're just perfectionists for this series and trying to fix the little parts that were drawn too fast.
And for some, they were just made to adjust the scene or change an aspect of the background for a hidden motive (we will likely never know).

One thing is for sure: JCStaff have more time on their hands than Shaft does.

Since people seems puzzled by the changes on the vending machine and Kuroko - Uiharu switch, they need to see the scenes before or after those scenes in the screen shot.

For the vending machine, the bigger picture is like this (this taken before the scene in the screen shot)
    http://img684.imageshack.us/i/grab03361.jpg/
Basically the BD version is correct, since in the TV version there was a bit of disconnect between the overall view of the vending machine and the one used on the close up shot.

As for the switch, you need to look the scenes after that
    http://img171.imageshack.us/i/grab27109.jpg/
If you're asking why don't they just switch those, the answer lies in the next scene
    http://img255.imageshack.us/i/grab27478.jpg/
Basically you move character easily in the last two screen shot (on sankaku) and in the grab27109.jpg image, but for the last one you need to resize/scale Kuroko and Uiharu if you want to switch their places which can result in lower quality (unless they redrawn it of course). So the logical step is to move Kuroko and Uiharu in the earlier scenes.

Btw, those screen shots is from the TV version.

Basically, looks like some more QC inbetween TV and disc. I think that's pretty honorable of them, to spend the effort when they have less time pressure.

#1: Differnet facial expression (or was this just a different frame in the episode?)
    #2: ?
#3: Shoe remodelled and has a shiny spot
#4: Some different drinks in the vending machine
    #5: Different facial expression
#6: Uiharu and the child moved to the right, Kuroko to the left (What the hell? (O_o)) (Sorry for not knowing the child's name. I haven't watched all the episodes yet.)
#7: Kuroko and Uiharu switched places

...Those are some strange changes. (O___o;) Although the new shoe does look better.

I think in a scene or two they polished it ever so slightly to rid it of QUALITY but other than that I have no idea. Must be a picky animation team that really wanted to tell a story in utmost perfection via visuals.

some small cosmetic changes for the better.

The notable corrections are from the 6th episode..
-The vending machine background is now correctly aligned compared to the TV version (the TV version showed the top row of cans from the vending machine, but the BD showed the second row which is the correct one).
-The last two corrections were made to better adjust the next scene which is now correct in the BD version (basically the next scene is Kuroko and Uiharu close up shot and talking while facing to the left of the screen... so the TV version is wrong unless Kuroko suddenly moved/teleported to the right side of Uiharu).

There's some crazy subtle differences, like the cans in the vending machines, and the shape of Uiharu's face on the couch.... not as drastic as most BD releases lately, tho.

cause its fun ? I personally dont know why either, maybe its to stimulate those people who love noticing those tiny things and to get them to post up about it on the internet to keep people interested and talking about the show ?

...or maybe they just made a mistake O_o"

The can edit is easy to understand, though I liked it better in the TV version. It's for the sake of having colour contrasts and make the foreground standing out from the background.

The new positioning of Kuroko is for composition, it's visually better to have a tall-low-tall order rather than low-tall-tall, it also makes it look friendlier, if you know what I mean. And they lowered the position of Uiharu in the last picture too since they made her too tall.

As for changing worried face to a happy face in the first one... I don't get it. Making Uiharu fold her hands just makes it more natural for her personality.

They screwed up on the footstepping though, looks more like a flaw now, especially when her right hand suddenly got thrown into the shades, even though the rest of her arm gets light, which makes no sense.

The new faces on the couch scene seems to be only actual fix.

The first one is all about Konori's glasses. Her happy face is just unfortunate screencap timing.

Because the anime industry isn't tanking fast enough, so instead of making one show for HD, then putting it on TV, BD, and DVD, they make three versions at around 225% the cost, then go "aaaaaaah! The anime bubble is collapsinnnng!"
