Love Plus has joined the ranks of such wholesome titles as Strike Witches, for at the recent Media Art Festival, run by the Japanese cabinet’s Agency for Cultural Affairs, the schoolgirl sim was given an official endorsement.
The endorsement means Love Plus is officially “an artistic work at the very forefront of art,” much to the delight of maker Konami.
Whether Nene’s many suitors will have any success in persuading those around them they are appreciating a work of fine art is still an open question however.
Overall winners for the year are the superb Vinland Saga in the manga category and the blockbuster Summer Wars in the anime category; the only proper game to be given an award was Naruto: Ultimate Storm, a game undeniably at the forefront of anime/game hybrids.
Awards for merit were handed to Nintendo star Shigeru Miyamoto along with Yshinori Kanada, a recently deceased Ghibli animator.
The Agency’s previous recommendations include a wide variety of top anime, games and manga, alongside the usual “artistic” titles nobody but judges is interested in. Such greats as Toradora, Aoi Hana, Canaan, Minamike, Soul Eater, Zetsubou-sensei, Geass and Naruto are amongst the titles endorsed.
Actual previous anime award winners (ignoring “artistic animation”) include Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell SAC, Lain, and Gurren Lagann.
Game award winners include Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Metal Gear 4, Okami and Rhythm Tengoku, so evidently the Agency still has quite some way to go, and still refuses to even grant games their own category separate from “entertainment.”
Interestingly, the works given awards and recommendations over the last decade have increasingly shifted from “fine art” to actual artistic works appreciated by the populace at large, although the awards are still dominated by the sort of thing nobody knows or cares about.

Great manga, indeed.
Agreed, but they really need to pick up the pace on translating it; the releases aren't coming out very quickly lately. ._.;
Indeed.
oh man. that goverment turn to eechi person.
besides that, everyone in Japan can affect on their brain. Reason: Too much tech things.
I just need this game to move over to the West... hopefully without an English dub... but that seems impossible
no lucky star?
fine arts will become popular soon, and also the illustrator.
From the other aspect, money is the best activator
so cheating is now endorsed by the government?
I forget that anime is art sometimes and just view it as entertainment. Shame on me.
YES We are enjoying the fine art!
Until my DS broke from everyday failure attempt of kissing (with stylus mind you! THE DS Stylus!)
heh now men who play this game have a good excuse, they are now true enjoyers of fine art.
all we need now is an english version XD and this would be the best game ever.
was this midea art festival held in akihabara?
And wait for UNESCO's approval as world's treasure
can we someday see that janpanese goverment approving erotic games? as such a prosperous pornographic industry as Japan
We can only hope.
hopefully
erotic games?
look, you dont call a movie a porno if it has a sex scene?
Or plot with porn. If we for example take the 2004 classic visual novel Fate/stay night, you'll see that it has 850.000 words (for comparison, the entire LOTR trilogy is 650.000 words), with only 7 H-scenes. You can hardly call that porn with plot.
It becomes Porn With Plot, my dear Anne.
Now I really want to play Love Plus >.<
ok, i probably will be killed for saying that, but i really fear that an ocidental version could be dangerous... american dub may make the title lose some of it's charm, and i doubt they will keep the game with original voices and add subtitles
actually i think that the only way this game could be apreciated outside japan would be doing this, using the origianl voice but with english text.
If you think carefully, a lot of games these days uses this approuch...perhaps they are seeing now that if they insist dubbing they wont sell...
Not to mention that paying a dub actor is probably quite a bit more expensive than just implementing subs (since they have to translate everything in the game anyways).
haha.of coz.gurren langann.nice nene pic.better if tanaka is here too
You misspelled 'Yoshinori'.
I take offense that Naruto was regarded as "one of the greats".
The Japanese government approving a dating sim as "fine art" is another way of them admitting that their men are either ronery, doomed to be perma virgins, creepy pedos, or a combination of all three.
kill this bastard
Or the more obvious and actually well thought out reason would be that the government is just trying to get the otaku support and votes. Government is just a popularity contest.
what. the. fuck.
