This resplendent Martian Successor Nadeshiko (or Nadeshico) ita-bus is currently cruising the streets of Akihabara as part of a promotion for the classic 1996 scifi comedy series’ upcoming Blu-ray release, and is sure to set off many shocks of nostalgia to otaku that can remember the show.
You might also remember this particular bus in one of its past lives, promoting Chaos;Head or Dream C Club…
These pictures are just a few hours old, coming from about 3:00PM on Feb. 22nd.
The bus was parked for perhaps less than a minute, likely to let otaku passerby get a good look at the ita-bus, before it drove off again down Akiba’s main street.
It did make a return loop about a half hour later, but without stopping this time, so I was only able to manage these close-up shots of the bus from its left side.
Ruri still looks great, as always…
In case you might wonder about what the stacks of monitors were playing, it seemed to just be the sort of trailer you’d find on TV or in an otaku store for the BD boxset.
There are no speakers, so it all played silently.
Some reflections of other passerby stopping to take quick snapshots of the ita-bus might be visible here – the bus was a constant magnet for otaku, and would be greeted with a good number of out stretched arms clutching cellphone cameras up and down the street.
And off it went…
Fans may also be interested in a newly released CD album timed to coincide with the BD boxset’s release that can be found right now throughout in the music sections of many of Akiba’s stores.
Seeing an ita-bus of such an old series after so many years made for quite a shock, but judging from the attention it collected in Akiba, it seems there still remains a sizable number of otaku who fondly remember the adventures of Akito, Yurika and the rest of the Nadeshiko’s eccentric crew.

Nobody remembers Yurika.
Everybody remembers Ruri.
I love Nadesico. I wish they gave it a satisfying ending. Who knows, with the bluray release they might go back and do just that.
FFFF Must get I remember this was one of the first animes I watched brings back so many memories ;__;
Nice bus.
Yeah as people have said, that artwork on the bus is all from the movie. Is that what's coming to blu-ray or is the series too?
Cus the TV show was fucking epic and the movie was more or less non-canon to me.
Agreed. I just finished both a week ago (interesting coincidence there) but as much as I like Ruri the movie was a bit of a disappointment.
Ok cool, its coming out on Blu-ray let me go get it I hope Martian Successor Nadeshiko aka Martian Successor Nadesico (USA) I hope Funmation puts it out.
I'd watched this recently from my old regular-def DVDs.
Where did the writers come up with the name of that mostly-silent, big dude, "Goat Hoary" ("Horney Goat")?
I'd like to see them make an anime from the anime-within-the-anime, Gekigangar, as they did for Genshiken/Kujibiki Unbalance.
Gekigan Flare!!
They did--it was released as an OVA back in the '90s, and what's more, was inter-spliced with scenes of the cast of Nadesico watching it at a theater.
They didn't like the ending.
This anime brings back so many memories one of the first animes I've watched aside from Pokemon and Sailor Moon.
Definitely looking forward to the Blurays.
Nadeshico first... wonder when they're going to release other anime in BD soon
Im still pretending Prince of Darkness didnt happen
I'm sorry, Miss Nanako. Looks like I won't be able to take you to the beach like I promised.
I miss watching this series. Brings so much nostalgia.
This really was a Quality Anime. The 90s were full of great releases, not all the Moe Blob anime that they put out now. I'm all for BD re-releases of all this old anime. Ah the memories...
And half of the members on here aren't even as old as this incredible series. Kinda sad...
Rurippe FTW
You get to burning!
Lols nice bus i love these promo buses xD i'm surprised some crazy rich otaku has not tried to buy one of those buses ... i know i would if i had cash ?
Yeah. Because EVERYONE would just LOVE to drive a BUS of that size straight through Tokyo.
I think I'd rather kill myself. Or buy an a little more compact ita-sha. Or whatever.
Yea, those set of wheels are a sure chick magnet... No wonder EVERYONE wants one
>_>
Isn't this kinda old? The show, I mean. Time to buy it and go back into history
History's important, kiddo. Not to mention I derive a lot more enjoyment from older series, what with actual interesting stories and actual variance in character design...And I don't even own a pair of nostalgia goggles.
lucky for you it was rereleased recently. Oddly enough a firnd of mine was just watching this sadly the va's drove his mom batty so he can't watch it while she's around now. He got his boxset from me due to amazon getting me a bootleg and two of em i bought the retail version heh so yeah i love this show. just glad i found the movie ata local best buy last year.
this series was awesome... i'm gonna watch it again now... :D
same ;3; i miss this show
me too ;_; I'll marathon it when we get the BD rips
Cool. I have wanted to watch this series for quite some time.
I have the original US release...might be time for an upgrade.
Great show. One of the best series with mech ever. Also good sf.
I watch this so many times and always have fun with this.
Simply awesome series.
If only the inside of the bus lived up to the outside.
Ah, Ruri is so awesome... And the huge torrent of Ruri related Ero-Doujin Manga and Images that followed after MSN is even more awesome. (^.^;)
What's the brand/maker of the bus? I can't seem to recognized it.
***
You should have posted a Sankaku Complex Emblem Sticker on it...
"What's the brand/maker of the bus?"
All you need to know is...
VTECH just kicked in, YO!
Bus is a Mercedes Benz O303 (european name)
Quite an old vehicle, produced between the 7Os and the early 90s
I didn't check the make of the bus as I was photographing it, as that was one of the furthest things from my mind at the moment!
get off his nuts bro.
heh figures my post glitches again. Anyways using the forum now so. Yeah i was just talking to a friend about this show the other day it's one of the better shows out there. I simply love the style of it what with all the spoofs and jokes it definitely slayers meets sci fi.
Man, that was like the first anime I watched when I was a kid(apart from pokemon and yugioh since they were US dub). It was the anime which got me into mechas and stuffs.
Ita-vehicle spotting must be the new train spotting.
I love the show...
I love the futanari doujins by Radiohead more...
I recommend "Rurideric" from his works...
I have the dvd box set of Nadesico. Watched it on my HD TV. Not really happy with it the since the quality doesn't look good on HD TV. Good news that they'll be releasing a BD Boxset. I'm hoping and waiting for the subbed version. Can't wait to watch Ruri and Yurika in High Definition.
Meanwhile I'll go check how much money I have left in the piggybank.
Hope the creator can reverse his "it's impossible now" comment over a sequel for this show.
Good luck with that, hasn't touched it since
Who knows maybe one day, one day they'll revive the series.
So you took these yourself?
Yes!
was a great series nice to see it come to bd
HNNNNNNNNNG! Dammit! This makes me wanna cry....
I'm still waiting for that second season, Xebec! I waited for you, Akito! I waited for you...!
I Love Nadesico TV! but I didn't like that movie (I like to think that it never happened)
I raged hard throughout the entire movie... it was the first anime ever I couldn't enjoy even a bit because I was too busy hating the director to death for taking the story in the direction he did.
Everyone can take a narrative sledgehammer and utterly destroy the lives of their characters by suddenly and completely arbitrarily making them go through the worst shit imaginable; doesn't take any talent to pull that off in a way that will make the audience cry.
The back story that led to the events of the movie might have been well thought-out and intelligent, but it's not enough to redeem that train wreck.
Should there ever be a continuation, I hope they completely reboot the franchise from that 3 years gap visual novel or how it's called, and that Tatsuo Sato won't be involved in any way.
