The investigative prowess of 2ch is once again proven in locating the source of To Aru Majutsu no Index and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun’s Academy city – the city of Tama, in Kanagawa.
As with many anime these days, using real life locations is neither uncommon nor unheard of – fortunately for Railgun Japan’s modern city centres easily pass for futuristic metropolises, perhaps because frequently they are them.

Well i think i know where i want to live.
Looks nasty compared to 2d
I'm starting to like being an Otaku... You'll travel round half of Japan in search of anime locations... and get to view some awesome places at that
Why is it that all these comparison shots show real life as being drab and overcast, while the anime is full of blue sky and brigh sunlight? Is it always overcast in Japan?
Tokyo is frequently overcast.
omg its exact
~proves only that the real world isn't so bad.
Lol they've even included a shot from inside a train carriage. Now that's real commitment.
Now we just need to find the real life misaka~
I am deeply moved.
Damn, I want to travel around Japan in search of 3D anime locations too... Sadly, I have no $$
Ahn Japan.. the only place I'd feel living "at home".
So where's Judgment HQ?
ARR ROOK DA SAME
gotta hand it to 2ch...nothing is impossible for them.
it's not so much a matter of journeying to find these locations, but simply that they are there and easily accessible to people who already live in the area.
hell, I just saw a map with apartment on it in one episode.
That's amazing...
I like urban centers, and that looks gorgeous. I've always liked features like the minimal raised train tracks, or the 2-flight stairs to pedestrian bridges like you see in Shibuya, or that shot with the bikes under the girders of a... road deck?
Gotta check that place out some time if there are any notable destinations other than sightseeing...
WoW I never would have thought.......
Nice find.
Looks exactly same
.........reminds me of my trip to japan i did the exact same thing, lol damn Chinese tour guide i didnt listen to word she said all i did was go off on my own in search of anime locations...........(reminiscing)......found so many......talking vending machine from akikan...
Just weaponize 2ch and 4ch now and go Durarara with it....
It explains how so many anime shows looked so cool because the art work was really detailed. Now we find out they were all traced and slightly altered photographs of real pictures. One anime recently even looked like it used photos of the skyline of Tokyo DannyChoo put up on his webpage about the time he went to the top of the highest building tower in Japan. With the step railings - not that set but the ones from the water across the water. Right around that time.
Im going there
I am amazed... if only animes could get them out of their rooms!!!!
Lucky Star made thousands of people visiting the Washinomiya Shrine...
Apparently this one did?
It's called Comiket
And practically every large scale convention
I will never understand how Otaku look up these exact locations
Maybe some of them actually live there?
Then it wouldn't be a surprise to recognize your own city.
Seriously, otaku can do anything if it relates to anime.
true that... true that boy.... anything...
I find it more impressive that the CG artists for railgun are able to still give the referenced images a lot of differences and completely different atmosphere.
Simple.
Over at 2ch, they have a GET thread. The (un)lucky person who first rolls doubles must embark on an epic journey across Japan until all locations of the anime in question are found.
When that person's mission is complete, they return to their dark basement and upload all the pictures before succumbing to sunlight exposure disease (leading killer of otakus fyi).
GET threads at 2ch are serious business.
I have just realized 2ch is nothing like 4chan. I'll just pack up that theory then and be on my way. Ta-ta.
2ch is not 2chan.
Why would it be surprising if they actually live in those places?
Isn't it kind of expected, though?
If otakus will even go on a pilgrimage to Spain, what makes you think they won't at least live there?
If you live there, it's probably not too difficult.
I've heard rumours that all their tour guides speak in a monotone voice and look exactly the same.
Not really. It's the same kind of rumor that all Chinese look the same etc.
they all do look the same. its not a rumor, its true hahaha
All you human scums look the same.
No, I actually heard they looked EXACTLY the same.
Almost as if they were...
Nah, i'd rather stay and watch the explosion...o.o
all japanese and chinese looks the same duh!
No, I heard there were EXA- fuck it.
Watch the anime people.
The number of people in this thread who don't get jokes has reached critical mass. Run!
like nurse joy or something
fukou da...
Then you believe that all Japanese tour guides have EXACTLY the same genes.
That's where Misaka-imouto is based on..
Not a tour guide but a school girl with a violin case...
When did you last see a tour guide wearing an EM visor?
yeah, and in the stores, you can buy up to 99 of whatever they're selling and you can sell just about anything you have regardless of the kind of store it is.
oh, and you dont have to worry about dying, just remember to save.
