A father who killed his 2-year-old son by suffocating him inside a bin has been jailed; courts heard he and his wife abused the boy constantly, putting him in an oven and turning it on, and placing him in a washing machine.
Courts heard that the Tokyo couple, both 35, routinely abused their 2-year-old son.
The father on at least one occasion placed the boy in the oven and turned it on “because he was noisy”; on another occasion he put the child in a washing machine.
The child’s mother was no better; the court heard that she fed the infant cigarette butts “in order to see how intelligent he was,” and participated in or instigated much of the abuse.
The court was also shown communications between the couple in which they referred to their child using language normally reserved for animals.
They were then shown recordings the defendant had himself taken showing the boy tied to a bed and screaming, with judges reportedly grimacing and casting a cold gaze upon him. CCTV footage showed the parents kicking the infant in the stomach when he tried to exit an elevator.
The couple finally put their son in a rubbish bin, closed the lid, put the bin inside a plastic bag and tied the whole thing shut with rubber cord, leaving him in this state on their balcony and in their living room until the evening.
The boy asphyxiated during this ordeal.
The father’s defence countered that “he thought the boy would come out of the rubbish bin on his own if he wanted to, and didn’t realise he would die.” The prosecution called this explanation “unbelievable.” The pair initially told police that he had “climbed into the bin and died.”
In court, the father was questioned on what he thought would happen to his son whilst trapped in the bin, responding “I thought he’d probably just sleep until morning… I didn’t think it was dangerous.”
The mother faces identical charges but is yet to be sentenced; her defence contends “she was influenced” whilst the father’s defence maintains that she was the primary instigator of the abuse.
The prosecution sought a 12 year prison sentence for the father on a variety of charges relating to the lethal confinement, saying “the sorrows of Yui-chan were unfathomable.”
Judges apparently felt this too harsh and passed down a sentence of 11 years, acknowledging his “deep regret.”
The lay judges (quasi-jurors) seemed unimpressed by the verdict they delivered:
“It was very hard looking at that little body. 12 years for that – personally I think they should have gone further.”
“At first I thought it would be 15-18 years.”
“5 years? 10 years? 13 years? How can we amateurs know the difference? It’s hard to grasp in only 4 days.”
“I hope this sends a signal about this kind of abuse.”

No, you guys are all thinking too small. See, this is how punishment should get doled out:
1.) Knock both of them out.
2.) Stitch their skin together, back to back, say, or if you want to go further, do a full back-to-back stitch-job (arms stitched, legs stitched, back and everything pasted to each other). Do it with high-tensile wires or something.
3.) Wake them up.
4.) Watch as they struggle amongst each other. Laugh at their misery.
5.) Once one or both rip the other's skin off, blend the mixture of skin, muscle, blood, and suturing wire into a nice mixture and force feed the both of them.
6.) Put both in a hospital bed to heal up. No skin grafts unless absolutely necessary.
7.) Come up with some other unique form of torture wherein they don't die.
8.) Repeat the process for, say, a year or so. Maybe two.
9.) Then throw them in jail.
10.) A few nights in, tie them up and let a rat or two come in and chew out their eyes. Or their tongues. Or heck, cut them out yourself and feed it to their partner. Or have one do it to the other.
11.) Then throw them into isolation, pad them up nice and soft, and let them live out the rest of their life in filth. Force feed them every now and then to keep them alive just enough to survive.
12.) Maybe paste a picture of their baby boy on the walls, ceiling, and floor, if they bothered to take one. Maybe one of him smiling. Make it irremovable. Paint it into the walls or something. Fathead it.
13.) When they finally die, toss their bodies into a rubbish bin and let some sharks eat it. I mean, it's Japan. Can't be too hard to find some sharks. Maybe use them as bait for the whole shark-fin fishing industry. Two birds with one stone.
Gruesome? Maybe. Fitting? I don't doubt so.

I agree. The modern justice system is too lenient. It does little to truly put the fear of god into people who would even fathom doing anything like this, and doesn't always give proper punishment for people's crimes, especially in this case. It needs to be changed.
I say, for some cases, flesh and blood crimes in particular, we should revert into a more fearsome punishment system, one such as where the criminal pays back for their crimes with EXACTLY what they've committed. Stabbed someone? Get stabbed back. Abused someone? Get abused the same way. Raped a girl? Get raped by a guy. They need to suffer. They NEED to know what it's like to be on the receiving end. And the world needs to believe that what goes around comes around. Criminal activity needs to be placed a far more terrifying light than what modern society has today.
Jigsaw was created to show us how to deal with people like that.

I know this sounds stupid but I think a person who has loli manga, rapes a loli and kills her, would get a more lenient sentence than a person who get caught for possession of loli manga. Simply because the first one was insane.

It's a shame that murders always receive such short prison sentences. Apparently some legal systems believe that murder isn't that bad of a crime.

That child never felt anything good in it's life. He lived only 2 years full of torture and despair. Death was probably the best thing that happened to the poor child. May it rest in peace.

Actually suffocation is the nicest death you can wish for. (In case sleeping and not waking up is out of question.) In fact, as described in the article, the child probably did fall asleep and died then.

IMO, death is a bit harsh. I'd say, give them a taste of what inhumanity is like. Treat them like guinea pigs/lab animals and run tests and experiment on them. Test the limits of their body. And if they live through... say 25 years of that, then we put them back into a rehabilitation center where they can hopefully re-enter society under the guidance of someone who will shove them back in the lab for more experiments if they decide to commit inhuman crimes again. Just a thought.
