The ‘pure-love adventure’ game takes place in a traditional school setting, featuring five heroines to pursue, and over 100 unique CG pictures and 15 H-scenes to unlock. The girls are fully voiced, and the game also has an animated opening sequence and various songs.
In a question-and-answer session, Max Factory assured the stunned audience that despite the ‘free’ label, the game will have all trappings of comparable erogames on the market.
Only the limited edition of the game, bundled with a Figma figurine, will retail for ¥2,800.
The release date for the game is March 26, 2010.
The distribution method and any verification of the purchaser’s age with a free distribution have yet to be determined.
You can examine the quality of se.kirara below.

Perhaps distributing free eroge is a new, bold marketing scheme, to generate maximum distribution to the masses and profit from related merchandise sales?
"At the recent figurine-extravaganza event Wonder Festival 2010 [Winter], Max Factory announced that the upcoming erogame se.kirara will be distributed gratis."
lol di you mean "free" well is it a new trend "free eroge to promote figma" ?
Sekirara in this case is an eroge company that also made Cat Girl Alliance, Secret Wives' Club, Cosplay Fetish Academy, Come See Me Tonight 1 & 2, and others.
Btw, 2800yen for the limited edition figma (wonder if it covers the whole gals or just each of them)? That's pretty cheap compared to Saber Lily and Spiral Chaos (Queen's Blade PSP)..
Now if only I know where can I buy these limited edition along with Nozomi and Mana...
Hell fucking yeah.
I have to admit, a rather interesting marketing strategy. Give away free games to garner interest in their works, and next time they release something people will clamor to buy it.
Also, I'm willing to bet there'll be plenty who buy the game, if only for the figurine included with it.
Yes, all five girls get a figma, plus that long magenta-haired girl, too, in one of the CGs. I believe the figma bundled with the limited edition will be Aya (blond girl) in a night shirt.
so they'll just mostly profit on the other merchandises instead of the actually game, then again even if it's distributed for free, that still wont stop otaku's from buying the limited edition especially with a figurine figma
If nothing else, this is a great move to get a huge amount of exposure for the company. Hopefully that will mean their next release will be really big. That being said, the side-market of merchandise for big games like this is huge, so I'm sure they have an angle in that as well...
Looks like Max Factory is trying to diversify their portfolios and branch into the eroge market. But I gotta say the figures for this game aren't really up to par with their offers. Hopefully things will work out for them.
the other ero-ge companies will probably be up in arms over this. MaxFactory might be ruining the entire market with this new system of sales as they are capable (by virtue of being a figure manufacturer) to profit by the (estimated) large increase in figure which acts as a compensation for the loss in revenue due to working on the ero-ge as well as selling it for a price.
By distributing this ero-ge for free online, they can ensure that as many people who do not get access to ANY eroge in the past can get access to this one. With figures distribution channels already being secured (otacute/amiami/hlj/hobbysearch etc etc), they can basically enjoy a large surge in sales.
What this means for other ero-ge companies is that their only and primary source of revenue is being diminished and probably taken over by a new entry to the market. What this means for diversity and an healthy competition in the market is pretty damning as basically there is competition on un-even ground now.
Very smart move to garner attention for the game. As to whether it would be noticed or not if it wasn't free, well, who knows. "just another eroge" type games often amaze me by getting followings (for the characters), and later, anime series.
it's Japan, where otakus will buy virtually anything else the company sells in the market, especially those with "limited" or "special edition" or "collector items" tag with it (in a bulk even).
the games were free so many people will try, hopefully madly in love with it, and buy anything the company throws at them.
they already starts with figma, and if the popularity can reach the level of Clannad/K-on/Haruhi, fans will buy even the developers urine if it's named, packed and marketed well.
It's my opinion that it depends on what type of characters they have in the game. I'm guessing they have a lot of confidence that the characters will endear themselves to otaku well enough to bring about the scenario you mention.
Legally free and just "free" are two completely different things, like Darkrockslizer said, this is good advertising, I'm pretty sure they'll also be accepting donations, like some music authors have been doing for a while now.
Well, they're making figma of the heroines. And as I'm sure you all know, figma sell really well and make alot of money. So honestly it's no surprise that this is free.
But it could also be said that MaxFac is just that kickass.
A company can take issue over the nature of the content their brands are associated with, is the only problem.
If they have no problem with it, sure, it's free advertising.
There's a Back to the Future poster in one of the shots as well, pretty sure they wont be getting paid for that.
Looks like they just chose to use real world references for immersion rather than inventing brands. People don't normally do that for fear of legal trouble, but they're unlikely to get sued or anything. Why sue someone that's advertising your stuff for free? :)
Since you managed to mention a 'marketing approach': can you spot the Pepsi insert?
As far as I remember, this approach didn't work for MMO's (CoH, MO), however I am not in a position to judge whether or not it worked for the Pizza Hut anime :>

When i saw this i knew it sounded familiar. se ki ra ra appears at the start of cosplay fetish academy. Anyone know about it?
Sekirara in this case is an eroge company that also made Cat Girl Alliance, Secret Wives' Club, Cosplay Fetish Academy, Come See Me Tonight 1 & 2, and others.
EPIC WIN, its gratis
Hm, I wonder how soon after it's release, that we can expect an english translation patch (unless it comes with that option, which I highly doubt).
A red eyes eyes kuudere loli and a delicious meganekko? I'M IN! I'M DAMN IN!!
Now I really need to grab my hands on those limited edition figmas... :<

Someone should translate this into English. Period. No complaints about piracy and whatever, it's free. Shit, I might chip in.
So, where can I get the game?
DO WANT!
HOYGAN KIERO MI EROJE GRATIX
Bueno y ¿dondé descargo mi juego gratis?
Saludos de un lado del charco :)
Oh damn...it attracted me again!!!
Once again make me feel like can't wait for it anymore...
Well beggars can't be choosers....but it doesn't look like a VN that I'd really be able to get into.
ORE NO HAREM~~
Hell fucking yeah.

English patch where?
Yes, I hope they make an English patch so I can play it...
As much as I'm surprise to see Max Factory make an eroge, all I can say is bold move + set my eye for Izumi and Nozomi
Lolz Gratis
So, all five girls will be getting Figmas? Or just one lucky girl?
Yes, all five girls get a figma, plus that long magenta-haired girl, too, in one of the CGs. I believe the figma bundled with the limited edition will be Aya (blond girl) in a night shirt.

interesting...
Those conniving bastards!
I accuse them of making this game ON PURPOSE.
Moesome! I like.
The person who said that nothing in life is free should eat his words.
There are still good things in the world.
CANADANE APPROVES
It appears as if 4 out of the 5 heroines have flat chests.
I can taste the win already.
*edit* I've been deceived! They were wearing clothing that hides their breasts!!
Don't worry 3 of 5 heroine B size is under 80
Any traps spotted, please sound the Ackbar Alert...
Righteous marketing move on their part...This will change the course of eroge sales for the years to come...

potential win there! a few girls are just my type.
They just better not be second hand >:(
I'm almost certain there were many *ahem* 'late nights at the office' for the game programmers.
Does fapping with two hands count?
yes, but the real question is, does fapping with three hands count?
Well, without this freeware campaign it would have been "just another eroge" nobody would even notice. They've got to make it stand out somehow...
Very smart move to garner attention for the game. As to whether it would be noticed or not if it wasn't free, well, who knows. "just another eroge" type games often amaze me by getting followings (for the characters), and later, anime series.
pretty smart move imo
>pretty smart move
>i might just go donate
Max Factory Marketing Executive : GREAT SUCCESS!!!
Give him my compliment.
1. Sell free eroge
2. ????
3。 PROFIT!
On...the...26th...March...2010...free...galge... done!
Another reminder with post-it!
Brilliant. O o
Even if the game is terrible it might still be a success like the way the wii was.
I think I need to take note of this.
But you can get almost anything free
it's Japan, where otakus will buy virtually anything else the company sells in the market, especially those with "limited" or "special edition" or "collector items" tag with it (in a bulk even).

This annon speaks truth.
what do you mean almost?
Everything, but 3D Woman.
Speak for yourself

I'm sure a lot of people bought Pizza Hut after seeing C.C. eating it.
Well, they're making figma of the heroines. And as I'm sure you all know, figma sell really well and make alot of money. So honestly it's no surprise that this is free.

Sevodax
But but can someone host it on a proxy? ;;_;;

Correction, its 'BACK FUTURE' no legal issues there.

I'm liking this companies new marketing approach... I might just go donate.
