Haruhi's characters are surprisingly well thought out. Even moe-blob Mikuru gets deeper later in the books.
Which is honestly, a lot of the charm.

Its an ok serie, kinda old as far i know, havent heard of it in a while, maybe there is a new sequel/manga/ova or something im not aware of
I'm not too sure Sakura Taisen belongs there. Its best years were the late nineties, although the early 2000s did have a good deal of ST merchandise being sold...
That said, I'm glad Sakura is there in the list. One of the most enjoyable characters in gaming for me.
The ST1 remake was especially great.
But what surprised me the most was that Cagalli and Lacus ranked 1 and 2 respectively, with Sheryl in 3rd, but no Ranka. I thought Ranka was more popular than Sheryl... But not like I'm complaining. Sheryl rocks.

If this wasn't Newtype/mecha biased(Bandai), I'd vote for the STRONGEST.
Newtype is owned by Kadokawa Shoten which is also the primary owner of the Suzumiya Haruhi and Lucky Star franchises so if anything it's more shocking to see a total lack of Lucky Star characters and only a mid tier showing for Haruhi characters.

Though this by no means she's an uninteresting character, shes just by far the least interesting of the cast. Tsundere to a fault and her character is completely fleshed out, the rest are still developing/need developed.
