No wonder there's an employment problem in Japan... Vending machines are used in place of stores (that employ cashiers).

So, that gallery has a vending machine with a "random slot", where you don't know what you're going to buy. It's not a new idea, but it's a forever winning concept. A student union I'm part of have a couple of can/bottle vending machines, and have had a random slot, for more than ten years. \o/

This is insane.

Could anyone post more info about the Sony vending machine?

I have never seen one in my life and am curious about what's being sold.

I went on a fishing trip to Toledo Bend (LA side) many years ago, i remember seeing a live bait machine. Crickets and worms do have a fairly long shelf life, but they can't be too lively after being in a vending machine as opposed to the bait shop. However, with the advent of vendors that take credit/debit cards, a machine that hands out Rat L Traps, Strike King buzzers and Culprits might do pretty good. You'd prbly have to install some sort of climate control stop the soft plastic baits from melting, though.

I've seen several of the Sony machines here in the states. All of them are located in places where security is mere footsteps away.

Not so amazing, there are all different sorts of vending machines in the USA too, but just aren't as common as japan. I've had a cooked pizza and cooked hotdog out of a vending machine in the USA.

Most interesting vending machine I came across in Japan was a machine that was selling 2L cartons of milk. I also like how many of the machines in japan play a "slots" game when you buy a drink, and if it matches the numbers then you get a free drink.

Best vending machines in Japan are the beer vending machines though.
