This is an English speaking world standpoint (being in English). In Japan more women are looking for marriage partners so they can "settle down" - which unfortunately to them means "I don't have to make money for myself anymore!" most of the time.

I can't disagree with anon's statement, because I can't cite any cases where a person did marry a supermodel. However, I dont think this is a formula for marriage material. But simply showing how one's mind works when looking at someone you would want to date (or marry).

Actually, you're on the right track. There was a snippet in New Scientist that suggested that, on average, men tended to be joke tellers, and women tended to enjoy laughing at said joke tellers, even when the joke was not so great. Women are not so much joke tellers (even though there are many highly successful female comedians).

The general theory was that it helped social bonding, and that a sense of humour conveyed certain positive traits about a potential partner that was of more interest to women than in men.
