people do stupid things muslim ,jewish ,chrstians , and any other religion , they all could rape , kill , commit suicide ,and other awful things , their religion doesn't matter ,but a lot f time people who don't know their religion well take matters in their own hands and mess things up .
for example i remember reading in history that the church used to give people who give a sizable donation a receipt saying that they will go to heaven ,that happened because people didn't know their religion well enough and let priests tell them what to do .
in this case the whole thing is unfair to the girl and the judgment was wrong to not an islamic judgement , it was just stupid and barbaric village judgement .
in islam , if a girl is raped , she is NOT held responsible for anything , the rapist's punishment depends on if he's married of if never married , if he never married before his punished is being whipped a 100 times and banished and fined heavily, if he was married or even divorced he is heavily fined and executed by stoning to death , but if the rapist was using a weapon like a knife or a gun to threaten the victim then he is executed regardless of his marital status .

the punishment in this girls case is unjust according to islam ,even if she hid the fact that she was raped , her punishment would have been very minor(because she hid the fact that she was raped not that she was raped because her rapist could have raped another girl and she didn't report) .
the fact is that there a lot of thing we don't know about the case to judge .
maybe it happened like the this report said and as i said a terrible injustice happened , or maybe some facts were removed to try to make islam look bad like some racist bigots do , here another way to look at it (start detective conan mode):
maybe the girl wasn't really raped but was having a relationship with her boyfriend but was discovered by her parents and married off , and her new husband discovered that she was pregnant by another man(her "rapist") and divorced her , and reported it to the village elders who judged that girl commited adultery and so they had her whipped and the father fined , but what i don't get is why the let the "rapist" walk free his punishment should have been the same a the girl 100 lashes .

If we look at the religion-influenced calendar system, Gregorian calendar, proposed by Pope Gregory XIII, the system that is currently the internationally accepted civil calendar, has reached year 2010 AD. Whereas the Islamic calendar, or Hijri calendar, has only reached year 1431 H, IIRC. If this can be taken as an indication of how long has a civilization been being 'civilized', then it can be assumed that Islamic civilization is behind by roughly 500 years.

Remember that by 1400 - 1500 AD (perhaps even earlier, and extend to later centuries), the Christian/Catholic civilization was also in its darkest moment with lots of violence in the name of God. Crusades, witch hunt, you name it. Islamic civilization is probably now at such kind of moment too, I guess. Just give them time, and perhaps, just perhaps, once they hit 2000 H, they'll be more... 'civilized', so to say.
