300 Anime Songs – True Otaku Can Identify at Least 270!

This epic compilation of “anison” (anime songs) spanning 2005 through 2008 has proven exceptionally popular on NicoNico Douga, serving as a sort of otaku litmus test, with its creator claiming thusly: Recognize over 270 anison and be advised your life is over – You are an Anime Otaku!
Disabling comments by clicking the captions box in the lower right might be a good idea, as the video is often covered by an endless stream of numbers as viewers keep count of their score.
The video unsurprisingly has a long runtime, clocking in at over a half hour, so it would likely require a good burst of otaku spirit to make it through the entire length in just one sitting:

No.131-230 = 2006
No.231-300 = 2005
The end of the video has a word from the video creator thanking viewers for watching his never-ending medley, as well as a brief word on scoring:
“In average, I feel that if you know over 270, or 90%, you are an aniota (anime otaku), while something less than 200 should be a beginner otaku.”
The songs are for the most part readily identifiable to anyone who has been watching a good amount of TV anime this decade, so perhaps the given numbers are not too far off the mark.

I always have the problem with knowing them but not remembering exactly what it was from. After watching 100s of series you tend to forget.

Makes me wonder who here can actually even identify their own "-" listings.
I didnt count, but i<m around 290/300. I reconize around every song... somes, had some difficulty because the song went too far. Badly, wasn't able to tell the anime title to each song because I suck with remembering name... I tend to forgot my own brother name. LOL!!! I don't if i should be proud in remembering all song??? I didn't have quite an advantage on this, 2005-2008 are years where I watched every single anime who went out, some I dropped because its really sucked, but still, I try every one of them.
I can't believe how many times Haruhi Suzumiya came back in this song...

i had 52...the thing is, i read the mangas of most of these animes and probably would be able to get many more if i actually watch the animes these songs come from.....

I think that 270 isn't the sign of an anime otaku, only merely an anime music otaku. And even that isn't accurate, IMO.
I recognized 284, and sang word-for-word with 96 of them. And I don't consider myself an anime music otaku.
Good memory shouldn't equate to enthusiasm towards a subject.
You are obviously talking out your ass. This is a 30 minute video and you posted 7 minutes after this was posted. And considering there are a shit ton of character songs I would only know from listening to remixes I doubt you would know 200 unless you actaully listened to the music frequently.

And for the character songs, I use them for other purposes, but I tend to find them and listen to them, yes.
Now, regarding the actual anime, I doubt I could name more than 100 of those songs that they came from that I've watched.

I only recognized 54 of them but i noticed they left out a whole lot of songs from some anime and included a whole lot from some others like Lucky star which had plenty of songs and while higurashi I only heard 2 or 1 of school days.

That's what I meant when I said recognize.
I wrote both "recognize" and "identify" in the article, although the video itself refers simply to 知る / "knowing" the anison.
It is a bit unclear, but it should be fairly evident what the video creator meant.

Just like そうせいのAquarion...anime was horrible, but the song was great...A lot of ppl are like that, like and op song but dislike the anime, and the other way around.

Lol, anime openings suck so much. I always skip them.
The only anime songs I enjoy (and thus, recognize) are the ones that completely scrap the J-Pop approach (Cowboy Bebop, Berserk, Spice and Wolf, etc.) and the ones that aren't anime songs (Ergo Proxy, Flag, FLCL, and so on).

there's quite a bit of them that aren't openings. I recognized a lot of the lucky star and haruhi character songs. although saying i recognize 270/300 is a bit much.
