Sony’s PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 in the core market of the US this Christmas, a major coup for Sony as it tussles with Microsoft for the much coveted status of being the losers in second place.
The sales for 11/29/09 – 1/2/10, as reported by NPD:
PlayStation 3 – 1.36M
Xbox 360 – 1.31M
Nintendo DS – 3.31M
PSP – 654.7K
Wii – 3.81M
Not entirely surprisingly, Nintendo’s Wii easily manages to exceed the combined sales of both PS3 and Xbox 360, although looking at the top selling games for the Christmas period rather affirms the notion that the Wii is operating in a completely different market:

Overall the US games industry is said to have experienced the most lucrative holiday period ever, up 4% on the previous year, though overall annual sales were down 8% on the previous year in spite of this.
um everyone already owns an xbox so yeah no s♥♥t the sales are down
honestly i feel like the wii is in the same boat as the 2600 was, loaded down with so much shovelware that people are gonna start getting scared to buy any game, lol
the wii is truly nintendos best system @_@. the sales are unbelievable. 3 years and still climbing
