A man has been charged with 195 counts of rape against his daughters, 140 of which were against one daughter over a 17 year period.
The 48-year-old man, a resident of County Galway in Ireland, was arrested on Christmas Eve together with his wife on 10 counts of rape and additional charges of abusing a son, but this was but the tip of the iceberg.
He was later to be charged with 185 counts of rape, 140 of which involved one daughter from 1991 to 2008, along with an additional 45 counts against two other daughters from 1991 to 1996.
The accused father denies all the charges against him: “I didn’t do any of it.”
His wife faces 18 charges of cruelty and neglect for her alleged part in the crimes.

To two Anon posts up thread. I've studied biology. Humanity has a collection of "Lethal" genes that if they combine too much cause increasing birth defects and stillbirths. It's an evolutionary feature for mankind because we evolve at a snail's pace compared to the rest of the animal kingdom. You fail at biology, just as Anon above me proved. He kindly omitted your "evolution pace" which depends on breeding frequency/life span of species' single unit and has nothing to do with inbreeding. Fertile (!) incest is no more a biological taboo than cross-species' breeding that produces sterile offspring (e.g. mule and other such hybrids), just in this case offspring eradicates itself from gene pool using other ways.

If two closely related people have a child and that child has birth defects, then this is actually positive for the species, assuming the child dies before it reproduces because of the said deffects. That's two less faulty genes that will be inherited in the future species.
To put it as simple as possible - inbreeding causes birth effects because of evolution. Since it doesn't doesn't lead to variety in the gene pool, there is far less evolutionary benefit to it.
Finally, inbreeding isn't the end to all ends. If society suddenly turned to inbreeding as it's only form of reproduction, the genetic defects will eventually be weeded out by natural selection as the receive genes fall out of the gene pool (which would ironically eliminate those diseases forever). However, there are far greater implication to inbreeding than just birth defects (ie vulnerability to the same diseases), but it wouldn't make any sense to people without microbiology background.
