A Decade of Bishoujo Anime Character Design

Scrutiny of the character design used in bishoujo anime now versus that of ten years ago reveals a certain amount of evolution, or at least modest sideways motion.
A key difference is the near absence of noses on contemporary characters; CG animation also seems to have introduced some marginal improvements in shading. Apart from that, little seems to have changed?

And in case you haven't noticed, 2nd seasons are mostly because of "high popularity" among viewers.

That's kind of the point of being overrated. It's usually not overrated if it's not popular. People can give a game a score of 100 when other people think it deserves an 85 or even 95 and they'll consider it overrated. Technically it can be a lower score too, but nobody cares about those.
That, and the target audience was pervs, on to dis any group or this show in particular, but the real reason it was watched was because they were moe, and people liked that, not to say that that isn't a legitimate field, just that it's less though out, less focused on plot, more on fanservice.

If its popular, its worth making another season, to increase no. of viewers and later make profit over merchandise sales.

Only in EE. Sighs got less K-Onified eventually and the older art style is evident in the art for the Disappearance film.

I can't believe VanDread is 10 years old. Time flies, I guess.
Hmmmm, I think facial features, such as eyes and such, are somewhat larger for the newer anime character design. The rounding off of the facial contour is quite a large improvement too... pointy faces aren't really my thing.
The shading is also a LOT better. In the old style, the shading seems too... excessive and abrupt. It's like somebody turned up the contrast to the max or something.
And who needs noses anyways? They're overrated. Just hold your breath. It's not like you can have a blowjob with a nose.

on the contrast, i hate the simplification of faces that's been happening way too much. it almost feels like we're gonna eventually end up with just 2 eyes and a mouth in some near future

I think the larger eyes correspond to a decrease in the age/maturity of the characters.

The old style was better, more distinguished. Todays characters look too similar, basically only the color of hair and eyes and the hairstyles are different.
A pity, since they could do so much more with all the CGI they have now.
Agreed characters look too similar these days.
As for CGI it could be used as a tool to allow greater artistic expression but it's not.
BTW K-ON style characters cannot have a sense of smell.

Glad I lived in this decade... the previous decade one didn't really grow on me at all. I guess it's part of a changing taste in general.
