Shanghai Bridge Made of Rubbish Collapses

Citizens of Shanghai are aghast at the collapse of a major new bridge, pictured, which was revealed to be constructed partially out of rubbish instead of concrete.
The bridge, spanning the Wusong River in central Shanghai, was completed in 2009 and replaced a century old bridge with a more modern design.
However, after only a short period in operation the bridge began to collapse, with investigators finding such sturdy construction materials as bags of rubbish, Styrofoam, scrap wood and waste plastic used in the structure in place of reinforced concrete.
Sadly, such cases of outrageous workmanship are all too common in China, which may find many of its rapidly rising skylines are none too sturdily constructed…

its like a hybrid of Styrofoam and rock...I'll call it Styrocku.
That brings me to ideas to get rid of pesky misbehaving anons.
teehee.
China quality!
You fail.
It's "Bridge: Chinese-Style!"
crazy chinese... well.. yeah
hmmm interesting name :)
Heh, my window was installed into wall with those advanced materials. Clearly, such advanced materials are not limited to far east.
Now I have to remember to never ever lean on it (it's 5'th floor).
I wonder from what the Great Wall is made of ?
just like SEGA, our real lovable China has gone
What are you talking about?
IT'S CHINA QUALITY AT IT'S FINEST
SPLENDID !!
Indeed...(-_-)b
From the body of those who build it and some trash here and there.
It's made of amazing QUARITY.
fail
its called sense of humor u dumbass.
^double fail.
DOUBLE FAIL IS WIN - YOU FOOL O__O
TWO FAILS DOESN'T MAKE ONE WIN - DIN LILLA SLINKA O__O
However anon, something can be so fail it wins.
its 3 lefts make a right, so you just need a triple fail to make it a win
I see what you did there.
There is a 'l' sound in Chinese.
Yes we know. *facepalm*
In Japanese too, for that matter.
No there isn't. The Japanese have a hybrid "R" "L" sound. This is why some Japanese get confused between the two, and often replace their Ls with Rs.
To make an "L" sound, take the your tongue and touch the back of your upper teeth. To make an "R" sound, take your tongue and point it to the roof of your mouth, but do not touch. To make any of the following:
ら り る れ ろ
Take your tongue and put it between the previous two locations mentioned, and touch briefly.
Chinese doesn't lack an 'L' sound, but it does lack any kind of an 'R' of Western languages.
"Trust"
...I mean trash
it's made of bones and corpses
Umm no offense but the Great Wall of China was built thousands of years ago back before the new-china-bs ways of building. it was made from the strongest rocks available.
Interesting. Looks like China has no more space for its rubbish.
no, my suspicion has just been confirmed
china is made of rubbish
LOL, CHINA!
Somebody should teach them that toilet paper producers should never be entrusted with building a FUCKING BRIDGE.
This is probably the Chinese way of recycling
cool i wonder what else is made of trash there ...
@Anon 5:30
Reusing you mean.
Gotta use trash somehow.
I am sure it's just art
Yeah it's called modern art and yes it was supposed to be that way.
It's an installation art piece about class struggle.
A more subtle alternative reading is that it's about how you shouldn't reinforce concrete with fucking, like, empty chip packets and shit.
No, they still have space for it...
My Country...
It sucks to be here...
lol.veryfunny.made of Styrofoam?and its not even 2010 yet

Lazy construction
nah, think of the amount of effort it'd take to keep something like this from being noticed... it takes ages to build a bridge and no-one outside the building company noticed anything awry.
so: cheap construction, but definitely not lazy.
Its more likely they just built high fences and bribed alot of building inspectors and government officials.
Money well spent, chinese style.
You always build high fences around the building you're constructing. And the latter part is just ridiculously unlikely that I begin to wonder why you even thought that.
What building inspectors? What government officials? Those were paid when they got the contract already.
building inspectors ? government officials ? do they even have those ?
Local officials in China are bribed all the time for stuff. It's a shame this kind of thing was able to happen. Imagine if the bridge had completely fallen before they had known about it's lack of structural integrity. Lots if people would probably have gotten hurt.
I'll give you guys a hint: you don't spend extra money for things like bribery if you're trying to cut corners.
Unless it's cheaper to bribe the inspector than it is to buy the steel rebars and concrete; unless the inspector is well-connected (and he isn't if he's just a building inspector) he's either going to wind up in a shitastic jail for a very long time or be executed for corruption.
And honestly if the guy is retarded enough to turn a blind eye to something as blatantly obvious and doomed to failure as this then he deserves a bullet to the head. It'll do the gene pool a huge favor.
If only this had happened during the Olympics. Western media would've had a field day, and butthurt China apologists would've gone red trying to explain it away.
