2ch seems impressed by this lady’s collection, although saying there are more such figure fans based on only her collection might be overstating things.
By all accounts an enviable and highly tasteful collection, and one perhaps surprisingly devoid of bishonen.
Former Morning Musume Leader and One Piece seiyuu and singer in latest OP has a large figure collection. There can be more of those girl collectors we think.
It's about acquiring Stuff. Guys do it too (As 2ch has shown us) but I think girls are very susceptible to hording. I know I've been through a number of phases of figure collecting.
As to the lack of male figurines in this girl's collection, I'd like to note that there just aren't that many cute or good looking male figurines. Not to mention girls usually like buying cute things.
Typically, girls will be open to buying figures, shirts, or other items with guys or girls on them, where are guys tend to buy mostly stuff with 'hot girls' on it. It's a marketing thing, a figurine of a cute girl will sell much better than one of a guy.
Anon, if it wasn't for collectors, nearly all of what we know about the world's history would be gone. Private collectors hoarded knowledge that would have died in the dark ages, indeed most ancient authors (Greek and Roman authors especially) had to be "re-discovered" in private collections because the general knowledge of them had died, mainly due to the church and governments destroying public copies of them. Most countries' national museums are nearly entirely consisted of items that were once in the hands of collectors. The biggest library in the world (US Library of Congress) started out as Thomas Jefferson's book collection.
Straight guy here. I'm annoyed at the disproportionate ratio of female figures in most collections so I try to get every good male figure I can find. Nothing to be ashamed of. My favorite is still my Kamina figure.
I don't understand why people are shocked by this.
Women aren't a different species, they're humans like men are, but are influenced to like different things in general.
I'm a Mass Effect-playing anime and manga fan that has a whole desk of figures in my room. I think I'm not afraid to persue what I love, namely gaming and manga, because my parents always encouraged whatever I liked, as did my friends.
People make the mistake of thinking that all women are born loving the color pink and collect Barbie dolls and view video games as something that men should grow out of. There's tons of girls that love what guys love, but in general (there's exceptions) they tend to be more shy or feel shameful about their inner otaku or gamerfag, Or, if they're like me, usually disguise themselves under the guise of male characters on MMOs just to avoid the men messaging them with "HAY WANNA BE MY GF?" or stay under the anonymous tag on imageboards.
Don't mistake us for GAMER GURLS though, since those are terrible.
If a girl has a Mario or Pac-Man shirt, she's probably a fake...maybe you guys should stop going for the prettiest girl in the room (not saying you have to settle for ugly/fat, but just go for a normal girl instead of the airheaded bimbo) and then acting surprised when they don't share your interests.
TL;DR Stop thinking women are from Mars and men are from Venus and that you'll never find the girl for you.
My girlfriend's collection blows this away. She's been collecting since the late 90s, and the last time she counted, she had over 700 different figures. Plus a large number of plushies, posters, and wall scrolls.
Hmph! Where are all the Marvel Legends, Transformers, GI Joes, and Pokeymans?! This collection is impressive and tasteful but she can do so much better.
I'm a woman who collects figures. Though I've only started pretty recently but it's a worthy pursuit ;D There's a devoid of bishonen in their collection because there's not many bishonen figures out there =_=' Believe me whenever the rare male figure comes out the women buy them in droves. It's a little annoying because the male figures tend to sell out fast and if you haven't pre-ordered it's most likely there won't be a re-print of it.
Fyi, bishounen =/= muscular or 0% body fat. Personally, as a female I consider both Kyon and Koizumi attractive and Koizumi especially IS considered a bishounen by many female fans. Besides, attractiveness doesn't only come from the body, but the character itself. But personally I, and many other people I know, prefer completely normal male bodies over lots of (or the lack of) muscle. It's nothing out of the ordinary. Neither is girls colleting figurines (I do so too).

me myself collect figures too, and i'd prefer the girls figures, eventhough the original ones are extremely expensive and rare in my country (so i don't buy much), and i'm not a lesbian.
it's not that surprising to me that it is a girl's room. and it is not devoid of bishonen at all, if you study closely enough i'm pretty sure you'll see a few males in there. what with the kind of media in japan, and girls (most of them) liking pretty things, i think it's pretty normal to like stuff like this- as a girl. If anything I think it's funnier if a man has so much girliness in his room, i know they're women, but look at this room from a non otaku perspective, appart from that gundam how manly does it look? what with their colourful outfits and doll like aesthetics. if they're not half naked or tits out it almost looks as if it was made for women.
alot of girls collect figures, this is not that surprising. although for 2ch this is rightfully a big deal since figure collecting is seen as a male otaku thing.
Nendoroid's are pretty small and cute so it's understandable that there is a lot of pull to begin collecting these. gotta start small and work your way up to bigger things you know. that's how most girls i know begin collecting.
"and one perhaps surprisingly devoid of bishonen."
But there's more than one actually: I can spot Kira and Bridget at first glance, and maybe more if I bother to zoom and check out the pics... You can deny Kira but you can't deny Bridget ;)
And nice Flay figure BTW, girl got tastes, I thought Flay lovers are extinct or something...
Nope, what can be considered sexy about them? Their body is meh, nothing attractive, not as muscular as Ryo Saeba, or not as fit as Dante, or not as 0% body fat like Gackt. As for the face, Kyon is like any random dude one can find on the streets, his haircut is fugly, the only good thing about him is his voice that is the same as a hottie named Sakata Gintoki and that's it. Itsuki, on the other hand, might be better looking than Kyon but there's this undeniable fact that he's gay for that fugly dude, and what kinda girl(unless she's into gay stuffs) would idiolize a guy just to see him getting it on with another guy instead of her?
Disney sucks, who cares about their productions, especially the more modern ones. I admit there were some decent works in the past but that was... More
Hmh, nothing new here, there are probably more female collectors on tsukiboard, than male ones...

i think so too

Opinions are insufferable.
Such abstract, intangible, and vapid habit. That's what I figure anyway.
With that rationale, anime figures should be in the Louvre hundreds of years from now.
Which would be awesome.

Such an autistic, useless and illogical habit. That's my opinion anyway.
Women collect as much figures as guys. You just don't know because you've never been invited into their rooms and never will!
I don't understand why people are shocked by this.

I agree and I love you.
Ahh, how refreshingly tasteful. Wish I found more figures like these instead of the sexualized garbage I find in stores.

score 1 for the otakus' side
give whole new meaning of expensive girlfriend.
A real life Konata. Awesome.
Pink ps2 for the win.
yay~ I recognise that Mahoro figure riding a bike. I have that too. Nice collection!
its normal to have figures as a female otaku, and any type you wish but please do not be a streotype and put pink all over the place
Pink PS2... epic win!
this definitely makes me feel better about myself as a male otaku
there too many collections, she's now certified an anime fan....
Anon says:
At least she keeps her room clean...
+1 for Luca Truelywaath figurine there.
she has me beat........but not by much
Hmph! Where are all the Marvel Legends, Transformers, GI Joes, and Pokeymans?! This collection is impressive and tasteful but she can do so much better.
At least she has Bridgette in there. Proof that 3D women love traps.
Also, all female otaku are Haruhi or Macross F fans. Undeniable truth.
I'm not. I have good taste.
My mission in life is to find a woman that actually likes my figures.
I'd love to have a large figurine collection, but alas I don't have the disposable income for that. And mine would ALL be bishies.

I'll find this girl, and I'll marry her. Then, I'll take all those figures. HEHE XD
Well u gotta hope that figures cost less then designer handbags. Which i think comes to the same price anyway elite figures are expensive >.<
She will nag you to go out and make more money -- to support her figurine-collecting habit (^_^).
Then, when divorce comes, you'll be fighting over the collection -- "That is _MY_ Mahoro/motorcycle figurine, damn you!"
FAIL!
A Collection without Lelouch is not a girl's room.
Uh wat.

im jealous she has all these out of print figures that would cost and kidney these days
It may be a trap.

Fujoushi, is the befitting word.
devoid of bishonen?
Kyon and Itsuki arent bisyounen?

Bishounen = Muscular? What?
Also, doubting that Itsuki is Bishounen is heresy.
Heresy I say.
