2ch seems impressed by this lady’s collection, although saying there are more such figure fans based on only her collection might be overstating things.
By all accounts an enviable and highly tasteful collection, and one perhaps surprisingly devoid of bishonen.
While I do not reject the possibility of the figure collector being female, I think that there is an overwhelming possibility of the collector being a trap. Considering the large gender-bending population of 2ch and Japan in general (see the zettai ryouiki gallery or japanese youtube musicians) I think it's more likely male. In regards to female collectors of figures, one collector does not mean there is a growing group of them. Also women have figure tastes like men do, they are not all fujyoushi. I support female collectors, and the spread of anime and it's related hobbies. P.S. even as a straight male that pink Playstation2 is just too enviable for words. (I only have black and silver) P.S.S. I do not possess any figures but hope to have a small collection some day.
Perhaps I'll get flamed for this too but I have to say it..
I think it's one thing for male collectors to spend their money on PVC figures. Hell, I have a couple kickass figs myself. But what bugs me is some of these same male collectors are now buying actual dolls (according to some anime blogs I've seen recently) as they've become more readily available these days. I'm sorry but there's just something VERY wrong about that.
My daughter collects figures but only because she got jealous of my collection. My collection is mostly cute girls Like Taiga, Haruka, Sheryl with very revealing clothing that she'd never collect. She only collects girls she admires like Saber. She wants to collect guys but there just aren't that many.....she'd die for a good Kyou (Samurai Deeper...) or Kenshin figure but I haven't seen one. The VAST majority of the figure industry is marketed to me, not her. It's never been marketed to women though so I don't get how you think it's a girl thing....just because Barbie dolls are for girls where you live, that doesn't mean that girl dolls are for girls in Japan.
BTW....collecting 'roid raging GI Joe's is kinda gay.
I know a girl who loves female anime figures but she's afraid of being labeled as a lesbian by her friends. I told her to not be afraid of what others think. She should do whatever she wants.
This is actually quite awesome to see though. Very tasteful collection indeed!
It's about acquiring Stuff. Guys do it too (As 2ch has shown us) but I think girls are very susceptible to hording. I know I've been through a number of phases of figure collecting.
As to the lack of male figurines in this girl's collection, I'd like to note that there just aren't that many cute or good looking male figurines. Not to mention girls usually like buying cute things.
Typically, girls will be open to buying figures, shirts, or other items with guys or girls on them, where are guys tend to buy mostly stuff with 'hot girls' on it. It's a marketing thing, a figurine of a cute girl will sell much better than one of a guy.
Straight guy here. I'm annoyed at the disproportionate ratio of female figures in most collections so I try to get every good male figure I can find. Nothing to be ashamed of. My favorite is still my Kamina figure.
Anon, if it wasn't for collectors, nearly all of what we know about the world's history would be gone. Private collectors hoarded knowledge that would have died in the dark ages, indeed most ancient authors (Greek and Roman authors especially) had to be "re-discovered" in private collections because the general knowledge of them had died, mainly due to the church and governments destroying public copies of them. Most countries' national museums are nearly entirely consisted of items that were once in the hands of collectors. The biggest library in the world (US Library of Congress) started out as Thomas Jefferson's book collection.
Former Morning Musume Leader and One Piece seiyuu and singer in latest OP has a large figure collection. There can be more of those girl collectors we think.
It's 2Ch, not general Japanese population
You got a point there fooly
are female otaku fuckable?
Think Konata.
Is that a Bridget in picture 2 =p
And yes think of konata since that's probably the best it will ever get...
Who doesn't go on 2ch nowadays in Japan?

Silly Anon...there are no girls on the internets...
You wish.
there are now =]
You're obviously rather clueless.
Stop believing in the Internet religion
haha that doesn't explain why i am on the internet. fool, girls just don't look at the same shit as guys half the time. =P
Well, I know a female that collects figures and all that stuff, but she's a lesbian, not sure if it's the demographic we want.
so you don't want the internet filled with lesbians?
are you mad?
Suddenly my attention is drawn to the large Bridget figure... It all makes sense.
everybody is gay for Bridget
pic number 2 i think it is woman (look at the mirror)
envy of what? this? Heck, no!
female Haruhi fan, awesome.
yea, some person on the internet has claimed to be a girl... then it has to be true
this shit is not news
Come on how do we really know shes female?
Well judging from the reflection in the display case mirror, the person taking the pictures appears to be female.
There is some Disney shit in there too; don't know if that means anything.
Sharp eyes. Now I notice that
and a pink ps2 too
there's a fucking pink ps2 on the pict ok!
so guys can't have a pink ps2?
I once saw a guy with a pink hello kitty DS, I shit you not
anything is possible
you can see the his/her face in the second pic
Great...
Now women are joining the buying market for figurines... That's 1 more competitor when purchasing limited items...
Next post, more pictures of fujoshi rooms...
do want lol
might be a les
I'll probably get flamed for this:
I think collecting tons of figures and dolls are more of a girl thing to begin with.
I mean, these aren't roid raging GI Joes. These are 90% girl figures/dolls.
meh I won't flame ya (could care less really) but you might so be prepared
Model people, model cars, model trains. It's all pretty much the same thing. Collecting is collecting.
Can't disagree there. Who do you think most dolls are marketed towards?
Then again, its more for role play than display.
Perhaps I'll get flamed for this too but I have to say it..

Half naked 16 year old school-girl figures, hardly compatible to dolls either in demographic or intended... purposes.

Your daughter plays eroges? is her name Konata? are you Sojiro?
or more likely a trap

これなんてエロゲ?
women are all lesbians
So you can chase the boys?
Or just actually have a hobby that doesn't relate to sexual preferences.
tits or gtfo

Hmh, nothing new here, there are probably more female collectors on tsukiboard, than male ones...
i think so too

Collectors are insufferable.
Such an autistic, useless and illogical habit. That's my opinion anyway.
Opinions are insufferable.
Such abstract, intangible, and vapid habit. That's what I figure anyway.

With that rationale, anime figures should be in the Louvre hundreds of years from now.
Which would be awesome.
