Otaku Christmas Seiyuu Stalking Mania

santa-minorin.jpg

Each Christmas, 2ch otaku start a “Supervise female seiyuu to make sure they aren’t spending time with a man” thread, in which they pore over seiyuu blogs for suspect updates, check for possible alibi, and examine the dates of any photographs posted to make sure they are genuine evidence of a Christmas spent alone.

This year’s targets, courtesy of 2ch:

Of the various seiyuu monitored, it appears Ayana Taketatsu (Azusa) and Yoko Hikasa (Mio) are lacking proper EXIF authentication of their whereabouts this Christmas. Aki Toyosaki (Yui) has been spotted manipulating the EXIF data of a photograph to make it appear recent, despite it being identified as older.

The reason for the EXIF data checking is that the EXIF timestamp added to images by digital cameras will give away a photo taken before it was actually posted, in case seiyuu have the gall to employ subterfuge in defence of their privacy.

Naturally, a sufficiently savvy seiyuu (or more likely their agency) could simply manipulate the EXIF data to give an appropriate alibi, so fans also look for additional cross-site corroboration where possible.

As 2ch puts it, this thread is “90% virgin, 100% stalker.”

However, all this stalkerish suspicion is not entirely a product of obsessive otaku delusion.

In 2007, famed bikini model Aya Hirano made a series of Christmas updates to her blog in which she emphasised that she spent Christmas Eve, in Japan largely a romantic evening for couples, at a party which was “nothing but women.”

aya-damashi.jpg

The updates were made on Christmas Eve, but suspicious (just why is perhaps better not wondered about) otaku examined the EXIF timestamps on the photographs she uploaded – the photos were actually taken on the 21st.

This led to the inevitable suspicion that she had made an update specifically for the purpose of deceiving her creepy fans into thinking she was safely at a chaste female-only party, rather than happily in the bed of some discrete boyfriend as fans subsequently suspected.

It seems believing their “idol” is a perpetually chaste virgin is so important to idol otaku that seiyuu must now manufacture forensically perfect evidence of them being free of insidious male company at every likely romantic occasion, lest 2ch and their delightful fans brand them strumpets and run their names through the muck…

Good to know there is at least some sense left in the world. If a girl/woman decides to become a seiyuu she practically decides becoming an idol for millions of people. That brings great responsibility, and they can't just behave however they want. Imagine they fucked around and behaved like some whores. What kind of influence would that have on the teenage girls? Very bad influence. This is something very serious.

If they want to be whores= Be whores, no one cares, but if you want to be idols then, for christ's sake, be proper idols. I'm glad these young gentlemen from 2chan fight so selflessly for a better world.

So? doesn't matter if you are an idol or nobody, being a whore won't benefit much those individuals anyway.

    Good work, Sherlock.

Also, bad influence? NO SHIT? You mean they will be able to influence anyone when their popularity hits the ground if such scandal exist? Isn't that rather a good example of what "not" to do?

I think you are much of a bad influence around here scattering your logic that doesn't involve world outside of your room.

Err, having a date on christmas is not whoring around. It is true that Idols must be aware that they are making money by tricking the creepy bunch (which is getting tricked willingly), but don't they even get a bit of a say in their private life and a day or two free like any other working person?

Oh, and it is IDOLS, not seiyuu. She may be both, but this matters the idol part of her, not the seiyuu one. It would be sad if people start to think that a seiyuu needs to be an idol to become popular in anime-business...

though I get the feeling that someone is sarcastic ;)

Whoah... Are you folks serious? You must be those people who place women on a pedestal. Women fuck, fart, poo and pretty much everything a guy does. They aren't angels, just humans. They have lives with their family members and lovers just like anyone else. Why is being in a relationship equivalent to being a whore? And anyway, they are just voice actors who voice characters. Awesome that they do a good job, why care who they screw around with.

    Comment by Anonymous

Except that men actually contribute to society while women are useless. That's just how it is. Is it too much if we ask of women to behave properly? I think not.

    -----
I read a funny explanation for this one once:

"I just had an argument with a girl I know. She was saying how it's unfair that if a guy fucks a different girl every week, he's a legend, but if a girl fucks just two guys in a year, she's a slut. So in response I told her that if a key opens lots of locks, then it's a master key. But if a lock is opened by lots of keys, then it's a shitty lock. That shut her up."

    Comment by Anonymous

    That's a nice little analogy.

Women shouldn't have sex until they are married, there is supposed only to be one "key" which will open their "locks". Everything else makes them cheap whores.

That shut her up? Boy she is stupid to back down because of such a moronic analogy. The thing is we aren't keys and locks. We are all humans regardless of our sex and sexual identity.

Calm down, it's called a joke! It was meant to make cynical fun of the topic, kind of make it ridiculous. If you'd come up with this kind of quote seriously in the developed word, most woman would probably just smack your balls and resume whatever they are doing.. without you.

There is really no sense of humour now a days on SanCom..

he makes a good point about public figures. you wouldn't want obama to get caught with crap like clinton did, or having paris hilton and kim kardashian as any form of influence in your or your loved one's lives.

    19:28 27/12/2009 # ! Neutral (+0.2)

That is cosidered a normal expectation. The expectations we are discussing here demand that the idols have no relationships ever, like never date and never marry or even have any male aquaintances.

    Comment by Anonymous
    19:48 27/12/2009 # ! Neutral (+0.2)

And the thing is Clinton despite his adultery, was a damn good politician. I mean Bush seems like the faithful husband but is a complete idiot.

So as long as people do well in their jobs, who cares who they screw. It's not like they screw little children in their free time or are creepy ass stalkers.

The word 'stalking' should be more than enough to say this is wrong.

Whore's and relationships are different things. Seiyuu themselves are humans and deserve their own rights in relationships. Stalking them to ensure they are not spending time with men is plain stupid. It's their choice (especially if they want to jeopardize their own career).

    Protip:

Seiyuu, does not equate to idols. Some are marketed as one, but plenty aren't. Most lead normal lives screwing their husband and wives every night. The end.

There's a difference between what you call "being a whore" and being a bad role model, and being a normal person spending Christmas with a loved one. I guess a lot of otaku don't understand what that's like, to have a loving relationship and want to spend time together. What's wrong with that? That's not being a bad role model.
