The otaku denizens of 2ch’s VIP board share photographs of their rooms of late, with rooms ranging from stylish to utterly obsessive on display, with harems to match…
Man, I really want to have a room like that. It's practically my dream. It's what keeps me studying and working hard, to have a room like that one day. I won't give up, I'll have a room like that one day, I'll make it true, you'll see.
I don't see much impressive here. The only thing to be impressed of is the collection of anime/manga/merchandise. Showing of people crapcomputers, ugly small monitors and cheap crap home cinemas is ridicilous.
Should I take pictures of my apartment and laugh at the cheap electronics people have here? =s
They work, at least the ones who aren't mooching of their parents. The only reason they work and get money is to buy more otakuish things. And I thought my room was bad but those first ones... damn they put me and my American self to shame.
My question is where do they find the money for all those stuff? I mean, don't get me wrong, I got quite a bit of anime models (enough to fill up my display case and out in other rooms) and a few pillow case covers and pillows but dang~ makes me jealous each time I see this.
and i do enjoy what i have
i dont work weekends (i do have 2 jobs but only works 8 hours between both) dont have a gf, and i am not that attached to my family, so i have alot of free time
Some should not mix up an Otaku with a hikkikomori! Otakus are just extremly obsessed with anime and most of the time love to collect anime stuff.
A hikkikomori lives isolated in his home and leeches money from his parents. They can be otaku as well, but they dont have to.
People in urban Japan don't really buy property (they rent instead) and many don't even buy cars because the public transportation is so good over there. The result is that they have a huge amount of disposable income to spend on stuff like that.
A friend of mine told me that they're not really encouraged to save over there like people are in Western Europe and the US, but I can't really say that for sure.
From what I heard, they don't save because the bank interest rate there are almost non-existent anyway so they'd rather just spend their money or keep it themselves... to spend.
The first room seems to have at least 100 dakimakura. Assuming they cost on average, $100 each (which is probably low-balling it), that's at least $10k worth of stuff in that shelf alone.
It's surprising how much everyday "luxuries" cost. Like I see people spending $10+ on a sandwich! I wouldn't spend anything over $5 on a meal. Yet I'd gladly spend $100+ on anime goods. So it depends on your priorities.
Otaku are rich, i love their pillows

These pictures really motivate me, thank you.
Rooms that have everything to satisfy their owners' needs even better than Mother Nature ever intended.
Boobs and a Rolex, All you need to keep a man happy.
Pic 33. Dangerous Otaku. I eat a chip with my left hand i write names with my right.
Kira we found you!!!

Hey, tripple monitor for a car game is awesome.
I agree with you, Anon 4:26.
i wonder how much money went into some of these rooms.
I only have one word to describe how I'm feeling right now... "Envy"
Not only you...
some of the later maybe but the few first ones are just pathetic...
First room was the most bad-ass thing ever
come on a room like that, is pretty much shouting evolutory dead end at you :)
Yes, I feel that way too when I think of falling into Mio's lovely bosom...
Pretty much this
I just hope they wash them every once in a while...otherwise I imagine they get a bit crunchy...then I try to imagine something else.
Whence doth thy currency come, fellow otaku?

I'm still amazed by the fact that one of them owns a Rolex.

What he said
Something called either a "job" or "rich parents."
Or sacrificing trivial things such as food and clothing to have the money to buy body pillows.
dont forget women.
or there lackof. to be honest, I prefer to have rooms like these than to have a girlfriend :D
I was under the impression that most otaku don't leave their room unless their buying more anime stuff.
that sound more like hikikomori
some otaku are almost them
but some work, and have a good house, a good car, no gf, but enought money to buy all the otaku needs...
also nobody that spend all his time in a room (with out working) can buy a LCD TV, a home teather, or a Rolex (i could only buy a Citizen Eco drive)
work my friend, make money, and live happy
Oh! yeah. And what to you need the LCD Tv if you are not home watching it.
Seems kinda pointless having a nice TV unless you can enjoy it rather than working like a dog all day.
It's sad because a lot of people work their ass off and don't have nice things to show for it.
They do have nice things it's just that they never have time to enjoy those things.
i am 11:45-47 anon
and i do enjoy what i have
i dont work weekends (i do have 2 jobs but only works 8 hours between both) dont have a gf, and i am not that attached to my family, so i have alot of free time
i dont buy things i dont use

Considering the fact that the interest rate on savings accounts in Japan is about zero percent, you can see why.
where is it not like that
my intrest rate is 0.1%
fucking bullshit i say
might as well spend it all now cause the inflation rate is through the roof here in america
From what I heard, they don't save because the bank interest rate there are almost non-existent anyway so they'd rather just spend their money or keep it themselves... to spend.
the sad part is most of this dude do not have GF and the more they put in the room the least likely the chance it will happen good luck but cool rooms
Regardless of how much income they have, they probably use up most of their money as it comes.
Actually, it's really simple.
They have no girlfriend.
They don't do drugs.
They eat and drink only cheap junk food.
They don't have any other hobbies.
If you were like that I guarantee you that money would accumulate exponentially fast.
lol Japanese people don't do drugs? You are really naive.
based on the topic, he is clearly talking about these kinds of otaku, not about japanese in general
pretty sure that post was referring to this otaku and not every japanese person.
the "junk food" arn't cheap!!!
actually, japan's cost of living is pretty high...
I am like that, why don't I have that kinda cash

The first several has way too many dakimakura covers. He should give me at least one.
Others seemed less crazy and actually nice looking and organized.
Rolex + Mio = elegant + hot?
I wouldn't need any eroge when I could have a racing setup like #24 *_*
you're missing out, imagine playing an eroge with that racing set up.
shit would be so fast
fap so hard
I love the racing gloves in #24. Shit just got real.
