Isn't Chihayafuru by that mangaka who retired because of accusations of plagarism? Also, according to Wikipedia Japan:

Heard some of these but never read 'em. In fact, I never read all of them.
And I sort of understand why Kimi ni Todoke ranks second in the list.
I prefer shojo manga so I guess I should check some of these out when I get the chance.
I've only heard of Kimi ni Todoke, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, and Aozora Yell. I've seen at least Kimitodo and Kaibutsu-kun advertised in the back of gal magazines. The list seems to be totally different from American shoujo tastes where it seems Skip Beat! and Ouran High School Host Club (two titles that are still running in Japan) seem to be king.
But at least now, it seems like I have a list of manga to add to my to-read list!
