Man Infects Wife with HIV “So She Would Have Sex with Me”

A man who secretly infected his wife with HIV so she would be willing to have sex with him faces a possible 14-year sentence.
The 35-year-old man, an immigrant resident of New Zealand, tested positive for HIV in 2004 when he arrived in the country, though his 33-year-old wife and child were uninfected.
His wife subsequently agreed to stay with him to preserve the family, and initially consented to having protected sex with him. Later she would refuse him sex out of fear of being infected:
“I just wanted to maintain the relationship for the sake of the children. He insisted on staying and he mentioned that he was not worried about sex any more. All he wanted (was) to see the children grow with both parents under one roof.”
However, her husband was apparently so desperate for sex that he concocted a scheme where he would secretly infect her with his own blood whilst she slept so that she would once again willing to sleep with him, and be unable to leave him.
Noticing only a mark on her leg, it was four months before she learnt she was infected, thanks to the results of a medical check-up:
“All he said [was] he was sorry. He said, ‘I used needles on you because I wanted you to be the same as me so that you can live with me and you won’t leave me’.”
Police soon suspected her infection came from the husband as she had repeatedly tested negative for the disease during a year-long abstinence from sex.
The man, who admits the offence, faces up to 14-years in prison on charges of willfully infecting another with a disease.

Well life is 20 years the death sentence is 15-20 and then you die I believe. You have a long time to weight for your death at the end of the tunnel. Much worse then Life in prison because at least you have a goal to get out with life. The death sentence has no bright end

I used to think that the death sentence was the easy way. Problem is that, in the states at least, prison conditions are better than living outside. I don't support the death penalty but "suffering" just doesn't happen in prison these days.

Jesus, its like living in a 3 star hotel.
The Canadian system is based on the Swedish system which is flat-out insane. I saw a TV show where they were touring one of the prisons, which looked like a upscale condo black. The apartments inside were beautiful Scandinavian-design studios with en-suite full bathrooms and kitchens. But it gets better! They are not locked and neither is the building. "Prisoners" just sign in and out whenever they want to stay until it adds up to their full "sentence."
What a deterrent to crime.

Actually, the death penalty in some countries cost MORE than a life sentence. Paying for all the court fees, lawyers, and procedures, on AVERAGE, it costs more in some countries to put someone on the death penalty.
The greatest benefit to having the death penalty as an option is that people ARE afraid of it. Serial killers will do things like agree to give the locations of the graves of his victims in order to plead down to Life Without Parole from Death.
But for it to keep working that way, you have to whack someone every once in a while so they know you're serious. That's why spending $$$ every once in a while to push the guy through appeals and into the chair makes sense.

You have to realize that one of the sickest parts, is that he didn't tell her about it and left it to just a random check up. It took 4 months until she found out. Is that still early ?

I don't mean to defend him or anything, but with today's medicine, a HIV positive person can live a fairly long life without developing AIDS.
Unlike 15 years ago where a person with HIV could only live less than 10 years after the infection, today a HIV positive individual can live well over 30 years. That is, if one can pay the extortion fee to the pharmacies.

Given the prevalence of HIV, I'm sorry. His desire to have sex is a moot point by any sensible form of logic. Pity doesn't outweigh morality - this man crossed so many lines I can't even begin to count them.
Treatment for HIV doesn't outweigh this either. His actions are, in my opinion, equivalent to rape. That's a bit far on the morality ruler for most people, however.
Still, any logic involving children also fails. They successfully negotiated staying together.
This isn't about hypocrisy. This is just wrong. If he was desperate enough to infect her, then he was desperate enough to find another way. He took what was basically the easiest way out.
And all of you morons who are talking about the life expectancy of people with HIV needs to know two things:
First, not everyone has the same chances. Some can die from this quickly depending on what they have and what they later get. And, second, HIV is no picnic even if treated. You can live longer than expected, but it doesn't mean it's going to be as if you never had it. Bottom line: It is still possible to die from it and has many complications.
That is not legal, ethical, or moral and if you excuse these actions you're just as pathetic as this man who had to infect someone just to get his rocks off.
I agree, he violated her body by infecting her with his disease. They stayed together so I assume she cared for and trusted him. He betrayed her and gave her a death sentence. Even if she does live a long time with it, she is still going to be living a very different life. And I expect she'll have a very hard time trusting people in the future.

You are obviously missing the point here. He infected her with HIV just so he could have sex with his wife. Which was a dumb ass idea to begin with. Think of it this way. Your body is pretty much fine you don't really get sick. You've never had any diseases or anything like that then all of a sudden the person that was closest to you gives you HIV which totally fucks up your immune system and the only reason they did that was so they could have sex with you. Now tell me is that a good enough reason to infect someone with a disease? Oh yeah and you obviously don't know what be a hypocrite means so try and lay off the big words now okay.
Not to mention that the virus will mutate each time it crosses between people. Meaning if they did just go and have sex without caution they'd be mutating their strains back and forth, possibly exchanging drug resistances and creating strains in themselves they'd have a harder time of fighting.
