Study Finds “All Men Watch Porn,” “Men Start at 10”

A study seeking to investigate differences in men who watch pornography and those who do not soon had to change its research objectives after it failed to find any men who did not have such experience.
Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse of the University of Montreal apparently thought he would be able to find participants who had no experience of pornography:
“We started our research seeking men in their 20s who had never consumed pornography. We couldn’t find any.”
Giving up on his original plan, the professor instead opted to interview 20 heterosexual male students about their experiences with pornography.
The average age they first watched pornography was 10.
90% of their pornography came from the Internet, with “single” men watching an average of 40 minutes of pornography three times a week, whilst men in relationships only viewed 20 minutes 1.7 times a week.
The professor asserts that pornography has no negative effect on male sexuality, based on his sample claiming in interviews that they had nothing to do with pornography they found offensive or distasteful.
His 20 told him they were normal:
“Not one subject had a pathological sexuality. In fact, all of their sexual practices were quite conventional.”
Of course, any supposed scientist drawing conclusions from an unrepresentative sample of but 20 interviewed face-to-face over an embarrassing topic is probably not worth taking seriously no matter what his conclusions might be…

Actually there is something very very very wrong with watching porn.
That is that for someone uninformed on sexuality like it is likely 10 year olds are watching porn extremes will give them the wrong idea about sex.
I really don't think rapes and tentacles and body modifications and etc. are a good thing for uninformed children(at ages like that they count as children) since they will see it as educational material.
Also to those people porn may be inducing the "not big enough" complex which may inhibit them from heaving a normal sexual life.
I agree. If your ten year olds free to look at anything on the internet, then you might aswell call yourself failure as a responsible parent.
And just because these teens don't admit that they watch extreme types of porn, doesn't mean they haven't.

You two jumped to extremes way too quickly--the study wasn't about "extreme porn", it was about pornography in general.
I watched porn at 10. I grew up just fine.
the issue isn't so much porn as things that are extreme. It's when something is extreme is when the problems arise. For example anytime any religion has decided YOUR GOD IS WRONG YOU MUST DIE, and gone on to attempt to annihilate said other religion.
Also, extreme speed, if you drive fast, you can crash and die. Shall go out on a limb and point out extreme drinking as something dangerous? granted those examples are a far stretch from extreme porn, but the point is still there.
1) There is nothing wrong with watching porn.
2) Most students have had family living classes for 3 years by age 10. They're not "uninformed"
3) They won't see it as educational material.
Your last point abut the "not big enough" complex, if it means what I think it means, however, makes sense to an extent, however I have calculated it as within the last 5%, thereby being classified as "rare". The vast majority will never even think about 2d.

That's a somewhat novice interpretation of research methodology.
Sampling is frequently taken as a demographic from the population. A scientist who tried to over-generalize their findings (like saying that the findings applied to all men with internet access), or didn't report the demographic data should not be taken seriously.
Basic qualitative research through face to face interview has plenty of merit, though, and 20 is a fairly robust sample for qualitative research. Though it probably lacks the full merit of the original research design, they can still draw meaningful conclusions-- it's just more ethnographic than statistical in nature. Though it seems they've already found that r is close to 1 for men:porn :P

A 20 person sample is so pathetically low it's embarrassing. I can imagine people doing a survey may end up with the notion that "some samples is better than none", but for a group to make view based upon that, is just facepalm worthy.
Also, my dad had never looked at porn, if rated R movies with sexual or nude scenes does not count.
As i wrote elsewhere, bigger number of samples will only underline the result yet more, despite of some people denying their porn watching probably will be found.

What I object to isn't so much the small sample as the way they said he "Couldn't find any." So after asking 20 people he just gave up? That's like going to the mall, and the first 20 ppl you see are all blonde or brunette, and concluding that there's no such thing as red-heads.

This sort of thing would heavily depend on what they consider porn. If they mean images, written, or film intended for such purpose, there are surely men who hasn't ever "watched" porn.
However, they most likely unconsciously, or consciously have seen some throughout their life, such as when walking past a magazine shelf, or on the internet, but such study would be as pointless as trying to find out how many people who know of pornography.
