fcp (or Cellar-fcp) is a talented Hong Kong based artist whose haunting illustrations rather skilfully combine traditional and contemporary Japanese styles, in a manner distinctly reminiscent of such greats as Hiroaki Samura.
Curiously, though perhaps fortuitously for those with a taste for erotic art, his works seem to keep returning to gritty depictions of prostitutes…
Some of his works were published in 2008 as an artbook, “鶯~Erotica”, but this appears no longer to be available; additionally his homepage appears to be defunct.
Unfortunately, the artist is taking a break from his manga CAT, and most illustrations because of University taking up lots of time. I hope he'll continue it soon though.
My goodness...
My dear friend, you have once again been highlighted in one of the most unlikely places.
I just talked to fcp, himself, and he tells me to tell you all to check out his artwork in many art magazines.
He gives tutorials on his work in SS magazine, available here:
nice to see something other than moe little lolis for once.. and nice to see something other than naked women in a gallery here (with good art)
jesus I have been waiting for something like this.. but I knew about him when he first joined DA, awesome artist
My problem is how skilled he is and yet still resorts to copying drawings off pages and covers of Blade of The Immortal, Ohikoshi and the infamous Love of Brute art book.
I understand just how impressive Hiroaki Samura's work is but why copy and rip off your influence and try to pass it as your own work?
it's b'cos we called it fans art... i'm sure smtime u would draw or paint sm of the conceptual art based on ur fav manga artist u admired so much jst for fun n shared with others fan... but only if u CAN draw or HALFly shilled like him... wat a pityto an artless faggot lik u...
Very very nice, especialy 06-11, they have some deeper meaning than the mere visage...
This artist actualy gave me hope, as I'm trying to produce in a very similar style (of course nowhere of his, but I'm trying)... I hope in a few years maybe my works will be visible to the public too, but till that day, I'd rather not post them (don't worry, I have enough 'critique' in my close zone).
Hafta say; I am impressed at the way the artist [almost] effortlessly dances between impressionism and manga. As if to any picture, any picture at all, were part of a sequence, said sequence could be either an eroge post-mo abstract or and intimal minimalistic ètude. The wide spectrum of representations these works bring into being... the various, almost dissonant perceptions those works translate... the seamful blend betwix traditional art and manga; which does not obfuscate the difference but rather coldly, even spartanly states it... no subtle nuances or shades but a contrast so clear it actually adds to the emotive power of each work. Half Cezanne, half Munch. A diffuminato that actually focuses, makes the picture more definite. A clear blur, oh the irony! Bravo, bravo I say!
Considering - from my very limited understanding and knowledge of art - the subtle influence of Japanese woodblock painting on European artists around the time impressionism and its derivatives emerged, you could say the blend isn't that absolutely odd.
It's even funnier, IMO, when Japanese artists draw Art Nouveau richly colored and decorated in the style of Mucha - a contemporary rendition of early-20th-century Western art seemingly half-ripped off Ukiyo-e. That's quite the cultural boomerang.
Well most of the pictures with prostitutes looks like something you would find in italy which may be why, and one of em russia? atleast the sign above the door in one of the pictures looks like russian.
I'm glad somebody else liked Odin Sphere.
Unfortunately, the artist is taking a break from his manga CAT, and most illustrations because of University taking up lots of time. I hope he'll continue it soon though.
Soooo what exactly is "traditional" about these digital paintings?
I'm always surprised to see Sankakucomplex telling me about an artist I have known about for years, Thats some Quality reporting right thar...
Wow I be been reading CAT for a while now... I thought it was by the Blade of the Immortal Guy! Amazing work.
Wow, just wow.
Now this is what you can call "ART"!! Superb Talent
Ico and Odin Sphere... 2 of my all-time favorite games <3
Great artist indeed.
Also: Fuck you moe and loli haters.
Nice.
awesome!
He should do some BRS pics...
too bad talents like him (and admirers) will soon probably end up in jail cells for drawing such artistic 'loli' art...
Wow i love his artwork and style. Those drawings are some of the best i've ever seen. Accurate drawing of the women's body. Nice
Man, I don't know why...
But, I can feel a story from his art
awesome, kinda sad, despair. I wonder how many there's another artist just like him?
I love this guys' stuff, seriously, so much.
It's great when Sankaku features higher skilled artists like this!
fcp = Fung Chin Pang
I have C.A.T., is beutiful.
I've liked his art since I happened across him on DA. I'd heard he got in a bit of trouble over the loli-prostitute pic though...
Wow. Are we sure he isn't Hiroaki Samura? ;) Nice work, either way.
That's amazing
So fucking great.
Love it.

AMAZING JUST AMAZING
Suddenly I'm reminded that there really ARE other art styles in the world.
Beautiful art work! His style does borrow from other artist such as: Hiroaki Samura, French artist Jean Giraud "Moebius", Frank Frazetta (who hasn't), and the Frank Miller "Sin City" knockoff...

Samura seems to have influenced his style a lot.
Ah fucking mazing.
ODIN SPHERE.

Actually; I also feel a very western feeling to the gallery. If this work was an imitation or even an acculturating appraisal, I hafta say: Well done!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but he has a manga out IIRC.
Indeed, it is called C.A.T.:

From other comments here, it appears to be on hiatus.
It's always nice to see a real professional artist on dA.
This guy is really good.
refreshing break from overdose of moe blob d:
amen to this post.
great gallery indeed
I like his style
Fucking amazing art.
100% agree.
I just found him few days ago on deviantart :)
He is great
Nice portraits of prostitutes... I wonder so much would cost a date with some of them ;)
qft!
Agreed. This has brought back the edginess that is so sorely missed.
^Agree and this artist is a true artist. These pictures almost look like they've been painted in the 1400's, the style is amazing.
Agreed in 110%!
