Tekken 6: PS3 Utterly Inferior to Xbox 360

Fancy dress fighting game Tekken 6 may be a perfect multi-platform release in that both Xbox 360 and PS3 have all but indistinguishable graphics, but some quite embarrassing differences in load times for PS3 and Xbox 360 seem to suggest the Xbox 360 version is clearly superior…

The problematic load times (which have been known about, though not so exhaustively tested, for some time) are benchmarked as follows, with the numbers being the load duration in seconds when switching stages or characters:

PS3:

BD/DVD HDD
Character change 25.4 10.0
Stage change 17.6 10.1
Both change 33.0 11.8

Xbox 360:

BD/DVD HDD
Character change 9.0 7.5
Stage change 9.9 8.3
Both change 11.0 9.1

Running the PS3 version from Blu-ray without installing yields pathetic load times, but even after the “optional” install the load times on the PS3 are in the region of 30% slower, quite a significant difference given the shortness of bouts in such games.

PS3 supporters can still point to the imperceptible differences between the two as favouring the PS3, not that they could possibly justify 30% longer loads.

Whether Namco, Sony or even Microsoft’s fault, lately it does appear the PS3 has been getting the short end of the stick wherever console ports are concerned, though even this has not stopped the PS3 version vastly outselling the Xbox 360 version…

Both are available now.
