Bayonetta PS3 Sales Double Xbox 360 Sales

moeyonetta-bayonetta-moe.jpg

Despite being (mildly) inferior, the PS3 version of Bayonetta has sold over twice the number of copies the (slightly) superior Xbox 360 original has on its opening day…

The PS3 version sold a total of 93,000 copies, whilst the Xbox 360 version sold a mere 45,000, despite scoring a whole two points higher in a suspect Famitsu review.

If even a botched port can manage twice the sales of the supposedly perfect Xbox version it seems Microsoft’s Japanese position may be even worse than previously established

The inferior PS3 version is available now.

Chances are there's ten times as many ps3's as xboxes in Japan, hence the higher total numbers?

The main reason dude is that Xbox can pirate the game.PS3 can't so...

haha lol . If the ps3 is hacked in a sense that it will play pirated games. It's sales will soar and it will achieve heights like those of the ps2 or ever higher.

As I understand a lot of PS3 games come on dual layer Blu-ray discs. The cheapest I can find a dual layer BD-R for is $23.50 and at that price you may as well just buy the game. For that reason I don't think piracy will be taking of on the PS3 any time soon.

Also, BD-writers are quite a rarity, at least in these here parts.

Booting the game directly from an external HDD could be the thing to go for, but I'm pretty sure a firmware update would follow, which would close up that security hole and/or ban PSN users who exploited it. With all this firmware updating going on one would think cracking has never been harder.

Not sure, because I don't own a 360 but is it possible to play pirated games online over Live?

Well, I don't know well about the price of games in other countries but here in Brazil the prices are absurdly high, it ranges from R$150 to R$250, so I have not much choice over that matter.

    @MeganekkoAi

Yes, it is possible to play and even avoid get banned for it as long as the game has some kind of stealth applied.

Whoa, I've heard of notoriously high game prices in Brazil, but that is just ridiculous! In Slovenia PS3 game prices range from 50€ (cca 73$) to 70€ (cca 103$) and I've always though WE should be felt ripped off...

ya its all about the number of consoles there are. There are 3.5 times more ps3s than there are 360s in japan. So for it to only double the sales means far lower attach rates.

It's not surprising that Bayonetta is still selling more on the PS3 than the 360, since the PS3 has sold 3 times as much as the 360 in Japan, and not every PS3 owner in Japan owns a 360 (though I'm pretty sure most 360 owners in Japan also own a PS3). What is interesting to note, is that Bayonetta is selling at a 2:1 ratio between the two versions, at least so far. When a multiconsole PS3/360 game is released in Japan, the ratio is usually 3:1 in favor of the PS3 version (sometimes higher). What this means, is that more multiconsole owners are picking up the 360 version of Bayonetta than is usual for a multiconsole release. I'm pretty sure this is because of the rather large difference in performance between the two versions.

I'm just making the point that relative to the amount of respective consoles on the market, the xbox version of the game probably sold than the 2:1 ratio this article makes out.

Total sales figures are nice, however it's good to hold those numbers in context to the amount of consoles on that market.

Back OT: I was kinda disappointed to hear that the xbox version scored better, but that's not gonna stop me buying this game for meh ps3 ^^

Same here. Slight better graphics or load isn't going to make the gaming exp to change that dramatic, unless the player is the impatient type. PS3 ver for me when I go to buy it.

i dunno bout slightly, thats like saying tekken 6 or SF4 would be fine if it were a 30fps game. Bayonetta is roughly double the frame rate on the 360 version during gameplay.

Given that Japanese PS3 sales are 3.76 million units, versus the 360's 1.17 millions, this means one out of about forty PS3 users bought the inferior Bayonetta port, while one out of twenty-six 360 users bought the superior original.

Tie ratio is much better on the 360 even in Japan, go figure. I'm not expecting the situation to entirely reverse with the American launch, but I seriously doubt that American PS3 Bayonetta sales could surpass 360's when it finally arrives.

You also have to factor in the fanservice games.

Xbox 360 had various games that catered to the perverse desires of gamers. Such as DOA4, DOAX2, Idolm@ster and Dream C Club.

That's a ton of anonymous japanese perverts with consoles to support their perverse needs.

Now, odds are they haven't thrown out their consoles due to the replayability of these games, notably the last two.

So, with that many perverts waiting for another perverted game. odds are they jumped at the chance to get a copy of Bayonetta for their perverse cravings.

Mind you, I'm a pervert myself. And as a pervert with both a PS3 and a 360. I'll be getting the PS3 version.

No, not because I'm a PS3 fanboy, but because my 360 broke down and whenever I do have a chance to get a game between the PS3 or 360 (multiport), I choose to get the game on the more stable console because then I'm less worried about the stupid console breaking down on me.

That said, I have very little use for my 360.

just so you know japan doesnt have much nationalism. they dont have alot of country moral like most others ever since WWII. they have a lot of ps3 and i saw quiet a few xbox 360s. the only things i ps3 has alot more japanese games ( anime related or even hentai related and the men are wild for it)

That's exactly what I was gonna say. It doesn't matter about the numbers in japan alone. Tell us the numbers for international, and I bet those numbers will get much closer together.

Japan is the Home of Sony, hence the higher numbers. Just like USA is the home of Microsoft, hence the higher numbers of 360's there.

I think the 360 version will outsell in the US. Mostly because of the differences. People in the US are to graphics whorish. Not that I blame them, I was originally going to get the PS3 version by import, but when I saw the complaints and videos, I decided to wait for US 360 release.

Artefact's ridiculous console fanboy trolling is so frequent that you have to wonder whether he is actually genuinely a rabid PlayStation fanboy himself. But then you wonder whether that's just what he WANTS people to think. Or is THAT what he wants you to think? No, no it isn't. But the point before could well be. Goddamn you troll master.

Sorry artefact, but the difference aren't slight, they're pretty big. The 360 version runs at 60 fps, the ps3 version runs at 30-, thats a big difference to the gameplay.

Also, we all knew from day1 the ps3 version would sell more, there are more ps3's sold in japan after all.

You post this as if you're surprised the ps3 version sold more.

I'd say it's great. I mean with its sheer console sales disadvantage I expected 10% of sales not 33% to be on 360.

More interesting numbers will be the US/Canada sales IMO.
