the problem today is.... horrible parenting, you end up with dumb celebrities shoved into the limelight and allowed to skip an education.

then there are kids who are allowed to run loose and do whatever they want, probably grow up around abusive parents, i doubt there are tv shows that make these boys curious about rape. my guess is the father let them watch porn? and then the stupid kid imitates what he sees.

AGAIN its poor parenting. its always the parents, some people just shouldn't be allowed to raise kids if they wont be there to watch them and make sure they are watching appropriate things and learning right from wrong.

IF I RULED THE WORLD, i'd make having a kid require testing, you fail it, your kid goes to adoption, fucked up people should not be allowed to raise their kids, period.

I agree with you, but offer this observation:

A family I know of had two alcoholic, possibly-abusive parents.

The oldest sibling (male), my classmate, grew up to be a semi-bum / alcoholic.

The middle sibling (male) went to prison because he and one of his friends robbed an 83-year-old man, beat him to death, and pushed him off a bridge (~50-foot fall to rocks).

The youngest sibling (female), studied very hard, got excellent grades, a scholarship to college, a degree, and a good job afterward.

Point: it's not ALL genetics or ALL environment which affects how kids turn out.

BUT... for the sake of the kids, and society, we have to give the kids the best chances possible.

Finally someone else who acknowledges that just being a human being doesn't automatically give you the right to a child (if your going to neglect, hurt or raise him bad). He gave examples of 2 alcoholic parents with 3 kids. The two boys grew up to be screw ups, but the Girl was a huge success. He gave this as an example that environment and genetics have less effect on kids.

I disagree because this isn't a rare situation when Bad parents have multiple kids. The Girl (youngest) probably grew up resenting her parents and brothers for their overall incompetence, and decided to further her own education to get a better life. Her decision to surpass the lives of her family was still a result of her upbringing, and not some random turn of events.

As for the boys in the article, they were exposed to sex by someone, and their parents are the most likely suspects.

It's a case of "king of the hill" syndrome. Whenever something goes wrong, people look around for someone to blame. The most obvious target is the parents or the society or someone else's influential society or whoever is perceived to be in-charge. Whatever happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!

Yes it is the kids fault but when you may have had a shity upbringing like he suggests you don't necessarily realize its wrong because no one ever told you it was and you've never seen sex as something you both have to agree on, it just happens on TV. Kids aren't innocent there just ignorant / naive. Once they learn what they can do then innocence still doesn't come into play it's just good or bad. You either have good people or bad people and there's no excuses, you don't kill just because someone never told you it wasn't wrong to kill cos you know it's wrong anyway. They're bad so they did bad things simple as shit. Innocence is an excuse, just look at what they did. They knew what they was doing and I'm sure the girl was saying no during the time too.

The point is that, aside from rare anomalies like psychopaths, people are born a blank slate. Who we become, what we consider right and wrong, how we behave, etc are all determined largely by our environment.

When we are adults, what kind of environment we surround ourselves with is - as much as it can be - our choice. And so there is nobody to blame for our actions but ourselves.

In case of children, however, the environment is the parents' choice. Not the that of the children. In fact, to a significant extent the parents ARE the environment for children. They are their role models, guardians and wardens. In just about every possible sense of those words.

And, thus, it is only natural to put primary blame on the parents if their children's idea of a good time is to drag a little girl to a secluded area, strip her naked, and take turns raping her. Especially so, assuming they were somewhat successful, she would be bleeding in the ordeal and they apparently chose to continue.

By the way, the fact they took her to a secluded area shows they knew it was a bad thing to do. And that they thought it's OK to do something bad if they can get away with it / aren't caught. Again, a major failure on the parents' part in raising them.

There is a lot of environmental influence but I also believe there's internal influence. You make the decisions and your brain works to know what's right and wrong so just because some people say killing is good you can still realise it's not. Good people wouldn't exist if it were just what was taught to us as in the cave man times all there was to do was fight for survival and kill. We make things like culture, honour and justice ourselves just like some people make the evil so I say environmentally influenced or not they chose the wrong path.

When it comes to role models being the parents they can still choose to see these people are bad and that they shouldn't follow in there footsteps. All they have to do is look around them and they'll see good honest business men, hard working normal people or even at that age the cartoons that have heroes who they can look up to. If they follow there parents it's because they gave in and that's sad but it also shows they're easily susceptible to being bad people.

I agree the parents are primarily to blam (in some cases) but the children should still be punished but to a lesser extent and then reformed. There's bad people come from good parents too so it's not always the parents fault even if they don't help but most of the time it is I'll agree.

Most parents nowadays raise their kids like shit, and when they tell them "no" and the kid just blatantly ignores it, there's no grounding or punishing whatsoever, no rules are enforced...

And then people don't know why when the girl screams "no" the boys don't give a damn?

The parents are the ones who taught them rape, directly or indirectly. Lack of education and discipline results in passing on the idea that you'll never be held accountable for your acts, and that you can do as you please.
